Up until a few weeks ago, most didn’t have anything negative to say about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is currently scheduled to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25. However, after Sony revealed that the Spec Ops Survival mode will be exclusive to the PS4 in its first year, Activision reportedly lost a significant amount of PC and Xbox One pre-orders.

Shortly thereafter, a leak revealed that in-game weapons will be locked behind random loot box drops in Modern Warfare, and as you could probably imagine, the response to the leak was largely negative. But, there is finally some good news regarding loot boxes and microtransactions in the soon to be released FPS, as the COD: MW’s art director, Joel Emslie, responded to the fans’ concerns about the game.

“There’s a lot of misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare,” said Emslie. “What I can say right now is that we are definitely not working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system (for Modern Warfare).”

He then went on to talk about how items, such as weapons, perks, and attachments will be unlocked through playing the game, and not through loot boxes or microtransactions. It’s unclear if they’ll be added post-launch, which is what Activision did over the summer with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, as they added microtransactions and pay-to-unlock options roughly one month after the game was released. On top of that, they also made it take significantly longer to unlock items through just playing the game.

It’s possible that, because of the outrage and canceled pre-orders, Activision is going to hold off on adding loot boxes until after the game is launched, and that they’re only revealing the “no loot boxes” news to regain their lost pre-orders. So, don’t be surprised if they add them at a later date.

In other Call 0f Duty: Modern Warfare news, the game’s file size was recently revealed, and it’s quite large. According to recent reports, the game will require 175 GB of free space to install, so it’s going to be packed with a ton of content at launch.

While responding to the reported file size for Modern Warfare, Infinity Ward said that the 175 GB file size is more of a suggestion than a requirement, as they implied that the actual file size will be smaller, although they didn’t reveal how many GBs of storage need to be freed up in order to download the game.
