Sony Interactive Entertainment, otherwise just known as Sony, did not host a press conference this year at E3, which came as a surprise to many fans of the PlayStation 4 and of Sony in general. Of course, there was some talk of the PlayStation 5 and several new games that would be coming out for PlayStation in the coming months: for example, Death Stranding. But there was no official PlayStation conference.
This would not be so odd if it was not a fact that PlayStation often hosts a conference to update its fans on what is going on with the console and the games behind it. Well, now there’s even more bad news for PlayStation super fans: There will be no press conference at this year’s Tokyo Game Show either.
Although PlayStation will have a booth set up at the Tokyo Game Show, this is not the same thing as having a press conference. They are two completely different things.
The press conference is a public conference where company officials speak to members of the press and fans directly to let them know what is going on with the company. While on the other hand, a booth is just a table with goodies and maybe a showcase or two. A conference is obviously more exciting.
Oddly enough, Sony’s lack of a press conference at this year’s E3 was the first time in the company’s history that they have failed to hold a conference at all. In fact, at E3, the company did not even have its own booth! And this is the first time that has ever happened in over 24-years of E3 history.
There has been much speculation about what is going on with Sony Interactive Entertainment. Some rumors suggest that things are not going well; others suggest the opposite, that Sony has a big surprise up their sleeves.
Either way, the gaming giant has been canceling and avoiding pressers left and right. The company even canceled their yearly PlayStation Experience that was supposed to happen last December. The first appearance of the year came just a few weeks ago when Sony showed out to Gamescom 2019 in Cologne, Germany.
So what is going on Sony? The gaming giant has several innovative and exciting games coming up. Fans have been waiting with bated breath for Death Stranding, a PlayStation exclusive produced and developed by Hideo Kojima, which is scheduled to release this November. And there are others too: Final Fantasy 7 Remake, for example.
Let’s all hope this is a good thing and not signs of trouble for the PlayStation empire.
