It’s been a little over a year since there was an official update on The Last of Us Part II, as Naughty Dog showed off a bit of gameplay at last year’s E3 event. But, Sony decided to skip this year’s expo, so we weren’t able to see any more of the highly-anticipated sequel.
While there’s still no official news regarding the release date for The Last of Us Part II, Troy Baker, the voice actor for the first game’s main protagonist, Joel, spoke about the game over during the Manchester Comic-Con event over the weekend. As you’d expect, Baker didn’t reveal much about TLOU 2, but he did say that it’s hands down the most ambitious game that Naughty Dog has ever created.
“I can tell you this: it’s hands down the most ambitious game that Naughty Dog has ever done for sure,” said Baker during an interview with Push Square at the Manchester Comic-Con. “It’s far larger than I thought was going to be possible.”
Baker was also asked about the game’s release date during the interview, and he answered by claiming that he doesn’t know when it’ll be released. He also said that no one has been told when it’s going to be released, simply because Sony doesn’t want anyone to slip up and accidentally reveal the release date ahead of schedule.
Of course, there has been a rumor going around that the game will be released in May of next year, as an anonymous poster on 4Chan, who claims to know someone who works at Naughty Dog, said that The Last of Us Part II will hit the PlayStation 4 on May 22, 2020.
Another unconfirmed leak regarding the game is that it’ll release with four different editions, one of which, likely the most expensive one, will be an Ellie Edition. Because this hasn’t been confirmed, we don’t know what the perks of each edition will be.
There’s also a rumor that the game won’t feature a multiplayer mode, or at least it won’t at launch. Aside from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, every Naughty Dog game since then has been released with a multiplayer mode, so if there is no online-based mode in The Last of Us Part II, it’ll be a bit of a break from the norm.
If The Last of Us Part II is scheduled to be released in May of 2020, then we should hear more about it later this year, potentially in the fall.
