In recent weeks, the rumor regarding The Last of Us: Part II’s release date has been picking up a lot of steam, as it’s been heavily rumored that the sequel to developer Naughty Dog’s 2013 release will be released in February of next year. Of course, as of this writing, neither Naughty Dog nor Sony has confirmed the February release date rumor regarding TLOU: Part II.
The rumor started after Ashley Johnson, the voice actress for Ellie, seemingly almost spoiled the release date for The Last of Us: Part II during an interview. Basically what happened was, in the interview, it looked like Johnson was about to spoil the release date of the PlayStation exclusive by beginning to say “February” before she cut herself off.
After the interview, Johnson joked about the release date by saying the following on her Instagram page.
“I’ve been saying February 31st and October 32nd for years and everyone is acting like it’s real. I stand behind those dates because they’re definitely real.”
Over on A9VG, there’s a poster going around that reportedly confirms that The Last Of Us: Part II is coming out in February 2020. On top of that, the poster also suggests that there will be four different versions of the game when it’s released next year, and the four versions are: the standard edition, collector’s edition, special edition, and an Ellie edition. Obviously, as of this writing, there’s no information regarding what the differences between the various versions of the game will be.
The main reason why the post over on A9VG is being taken seriously is that the user who uploaded it also did the exact same thing with the Death Stranding release date long before it was announced. So, it’s very plausible to expect that the user has some kind of inside knowledge or connections within Naughty Dog.
If the February release date rumor ends up being true, then Sony should release at least one more trailer for The Last of Us: Part II between now and the end of the year. Many are expecting the company to reveal the PlayStation 5 and announce its release date at some point later this year, so they could do that in addition to confirming The Last of Us: Part II’s release date.
For now, though, nothing has been confirmed. So, all anyone can do is wait patiently for the next trailer for the game to come out, which should reveal the game’s official release date.
