This was probably on everyone’s mind: ‘What about the Xbox Game Pass to PC? Is it not the same or what?’. Actually, it is for us who are not in the know, but overall tough luck, we are still not getting the Game Pass for that platform. Interestingly enough, they cleared the confusion by reminding the Xbox console gamers that they can continue to enjoy their Game Pass subscription on their console. A to A+ rating for the effort.

In the meantime, those who were quick to catch the joke continued interacting among each other. The community has always maintained a playful aspect to the discussion, even playing on who is more willing to accept the new Fallout lore or not. Apart from that, there was a lot of similarity between different user’s perspectives. The line between the gaming world and the real world has really become invisible. Gamers have a choice but to live in both realms according to their preferences. It’s the world of fantasy and the real one, smack in the middle.

It seems like most of the people responding to the tweet have really given it some deep thought; the level of engagement and the different takes are absolutely mind-boggling! I think it’s really impressive how the crossover between gaming and television has become so prevalent in people’s imaginations that they have no trouble switching between the two or even mixing them up at times. It’s like a daily routine for most of them now: playing video games and watching TV shows merge together. The time spent accessing their OCs has probably increased considerably.

And now I think we can get a bit more serious and start talking about what that means for the Video Game Industry. First off, it probably means we can expect to see more close-up interactions among the Game Studios and the TV Networks, which is great for us, the audience, since we’ll have more entertaining content combined from these two sides that we can’t stop loving! It is equally important to point out, though, that the value of a good series could never again be overlooked by a game company. Gamers tend to loose interest in a game and stop playing when the series/films are done even if just for a while. Plenty of examples can be cited to back up this statement, e.g. The Walking Dead, Stranger Things, etc.

It is interesting to think about such a long-term development and make predictions on which gaming franchises will be the future kings of the TV screen. We are already actively monitoring the situation with the upcoming bioShock and Tomb Raider series, and many gamers are eager to finally see the long-awaited adaptation of the Witcher game!

One very possible future scenario is that a game’s official lore might be made a part of the world of the upcoming series and vice versa. Right now, the multi-layered communication situation between the different media is already very complicated. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the movie had an entirely different take on the lore than the game coming in almost a year later? Is it for the best or for the worst? The whole process could easily lead to some amazing cross-platform partnerships and create confusion at the same time.

In any case, it will be fun to watch how this develops. Who knows, maybe we’ll have a whole new genre of movies/TV shows and games based on the interaction between the two? One thing is for sure, if the Xbox Game Pass tweet is anything to go by, we’re going to get some pretty wild and crazy content. The industry is also closely watching developments from major players like PlayStation.
