One of the more popular movies to come out featuring a board game is JUMANJI. It burst onto the scene back in the mid 90s, featuring amazing work from the late Robin Williams. It was such a pivotal movie for children growing up.
The 2017 reimagining built off the lore from the original and updated it with video game themes. It features an amazing cast as well, including Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Heart, and Karen Gillan. The movie was full of exciting and funny moments.
The movie did so well — in fact — that it’s apparently getting a video game. A recent trailer announcement from PlayStation confirmed JUMANJI: The Video Game. It’s being worked on by Outright Games, Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, Funsolve, and Sony. That’s quite a team joining forces to bring this iconic tale to the video game sector.
The game will officially release in November for all major consoles and PC. As mentioned earlier, the core cast that appeared in the 2017 movie will be reprising their roles in the video game. This is great news if you’re a fan of the film.
You have the opportunity to control some of your favorite characters and take part in the action like never before. The visuals shown in the trailer have a lot of personality. They almost have a Fortnite vibe to them, but that’s not a bad thing. The developers just seem to be taking a humor/adventure route, as opposed to all-out action and insane graphics.
The story in this video game is a lot like the plot in the movie. Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin Finbar, and Professor Shelly Oberon must join forces to find the Jewels of Jumanji. The entire world is dependent on their success, setting the stage for an epic adventure.
Along the way, you’ll run into a wide variety of animals and enemies. They’ll keep you on your toes as you traverse through the various jungle stages. In addition to playing solo, users will be able to join online sessions.
The multiplayer mode supports up to four users, which is perfect if you want to relive this epic story with some of your closest friends.
More feature announcements will be coming shortly, according to the publisher. For now, though, it seems like this video game is pretty much a true JUMANJI experience. If you enjoyed the movie, you’ll have a blast controlling these quirky characters around a jungle to save all of humanity.
