Forza Horizon 5 and Elden Ring Nightreign officially topped the PlayStation Store downloads for the month of May, causing great unrest in the gaming community. While a few rejoiced at their strange ascent, others took this opportunity to throw more shade at what one could barely call a first-party lineup of PlayStation.
The official PlayStation tweet released the rankings, with a link to the complete downloads list. The replies got ugly, with Xbox fans pointing out how in reality, two of the biggest PlayStation hits last month were Xbox-published games. One user, @PietVHV, chimed with sarcasm: “Damn. Xbox games are really saving PS. You PS fanboys should really thank @XboxP3!” In reply to this, @Discod844 said, “Xbox saves PlayStation.… Never thought I’d see the day.”
However, it was not just the Xbox camp who was fueling the fire. The more faithful of PlayStation answered back, questioning the very presence of a 2021 game (Forza Horizon 5) in the top charts. @GamingKarmig called it “pathetic,” with @Rattlehead73x complaining, “It sure would be nice if you gave us a 1st party game… none in like 9 months.”
Then matters began to get uglier as @MariusPsBanner joked that PlayStation studios should probably be “experiencing depression” watching a four-year-old Xbox game outperform their own releases. Others, like @Violet88188, practically dismissed the rankings outright by commenting: “Not hard to top charts when not a single AAA game released lol.”
Of course, there was the obligatory GTA V mention, because, even now, Rockstar’s decade-old juggernaut gets to wreck the top three ranks. Summing everyone’s sentiments was @Priestlyblock67 with his tweet: “HOW THE FUCK IS GTA V STILL TOP 3????”
The haters couldn’t let Elden Ring take glory uncontested, with @TheGOAT_Rules sarcastically questioning how it could have “just came out less than a week ago” and still be atop the charts for May, while @Blacked15722688 did not hold back with, “Doom really flopped.”
This war just spiraled right back into platform-advocating troll territory when @XboxNation7603 made fun of “@Xbox is giving @PlayStation games to play since they don’t have anything! 😂😭” Meanwhile, @PSdikrider flipped the script with a variation of, “Xbox once again takes the charts, what happened PlayStation?”
A few voices tried to inject the chaos with sanity. @Unmasked89 said in critique: “Not every game is made to be that mainstream, and that’s ok.”
What this means is-Forza Horizon 5 and Elden Ring still killing it. The drought of PlayStation exclusives gives fuel to the console war. GTA V will probably outlive us all. So really, no matter if you’re Team Xbox or Team PlayStation, or here just for garbage, gamers and their opinions are infinite.
Otherwise, that really shouldn’t be the end of this, as we got another round of hilarious Twitter beef to carry us through to the next State of Play… however long that is.
