Alright, guys, strap in because the official countdown for the Xbox Games Showcase and The Outer Worlds 2 Direct is just one week away. Mark June 8 down on your calendars for the event that everyone should really try not to miss. The Twitter hype is raining down with excitement, confusion, and some other unique noises that Twitter can think of.
So, to start, let’s differentiate between the known facts and. The Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft’s biggest summer event, is where they release trailers, announcements, and sometimes even surprise releases. They’re dialing it up a notch this year with The Outer Worlds 2 deep dive, the sequel to the make-pie-from-mischief RPG of Obsidian. So, if weird space adventures and corporate satire are your cup of tea, this is your show. The first game did so well, and the players wanted more.
Then, contradictory reacting results come into play. Some gamers can’t contain their excitement: @ShameIson said, “Can’t wait 😀,” and @GenericSalesGuy just blurted, “Bring it on!” However, @DominikPolskaa wants to cut the chit-chat and make demands for “We Want New Halo :).” And I agree with him. Others have lost the vibe; @RonMexico6920 took the path seldom-taken to give a warning, “keep your kids away from this company,” for…OK. Twitter is still undefeated in randomness.
Midway through the drama that has to crawl its way in before the closing of any gaming event, @Matty_Cs_World went on a rant of his own about how Xbox’s become a “3rd party publisher” and doesn’t care about customers anymore, while @newame1235 tried to calm everybody and say, “Just enjoy the game.” Classic. And the funniest offensive comment must come from @Stefano63497223, “Third party show case 😂🔥”- savage but fair, isn’t it?
Now for the wild ones. @Aguinar0000 just said, “Just came,” which…uh, congratulations? In the meantime, @Bjornir0nside is bitching about something specific: Warzone suddenly requiring Game Pass, which either sounds like a glitch or a subtle irritant. @ShedBoyStu is halfway through begging for the Gears of War Reloaded beta, like his life depended on it. That’s our mood.
Anyway, back to the main event; The Outer Worlds 2 Direct is the true star of this show. The first game was a breath of fresh air for RGP fans, combining dark humor with player choice in a way that felt uniquely Obsidian. The sequel has big shoes to fill, but if the studio’s history is anything to look at, we’re in for a treat. The fact that they’re giving it its own Direct means there’s probably a lot to show, be it gameplay, story details, or maybe even a release window. So, here’s to hoping.
So high have expectations been raised for the Xbox Showcase itself. Conversations need to be held on updates regarding Fable, Avowed, Hellblade 2, and yes, that elusive new Halo project. Given the swirling rumors surrounding Xbox’s first-party lineup, we might just be in for a surprise or two ourselves—the one Gears beta @ShedBoyStu prays for, hopefully.
June 8 is a big day, so whether it’s for games, drama, or just watching chaos unfold on Twitter, this one will be a ride. Oh, and for anybody who still hasn’t played the first Outer Worlds… You have a week to compensate for that. Just saying.
