Mark your calendars, then, soulslike fans: Wuchang: Fallen Feathers comes to PS5 on July 24. And judging by this brand-new trailer-thing’s gonna be pipe and brutal, with some of the weirdest bosses we’ve seen in a minute.

The trailer just dropped from the internet like a flaming sword through the skull of a demon, showing off the rapid-paced combat, eerie environments, and foremost, those bosses, grotesque, nightmare-fuel creations that seem to have crawled out of a cursed oil painting.

One moment you dodge a giant blade, the next you’re staring into the face of some multi-limbed abomination that clearly skipped its therapy sessions. Classic soulslike stuff, but this one looks to keep its own creepy flavor.

What about Wuchang: Fallen Feathers? Well, it’s a new action RPG that evidently entirely steals from the Dark Souls playbook-combat and all, tight and punishingly difficult, set in a world soaking wet from dark fantasy juices.

But rather than the erstwhile fond fancy of pretentious knaves and draconian fellows, here it’s something much darker. Think: ancient Chinese mythology meets cosmic horror, with a generous side of “why does that enemy have so many eyes?” abominable designs.

So don’t show too much story-wise while heavy in the trailer regarding the atmosphere. Foggy battle-torn grounds, crumbling temples, mind-wrecking assemblages of yin nightmares spewing all over the battlefield. Combat? Fluidity, weight, dodges, and parries, with some looking highly satisfying finishers.

July 24 isn’t really far away-but soulslike addicts will feel like eternity. Especially because the details are very scant-there is no confirmation on other consoles (PC is most likely) and certainly no sweet lore. We still haven’t found out whether this game, just like Elden Ring, is going to leave us psychologically bruised. But that is part of the fun in it, isn’t it?

If you tend to enjoy punishing combat, eerie worlds, and bosses that are going to make you question your life choices, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is shaping up to be compulsory. The trailer is out now, go watch it, feel the hype and mentally prepare yourself for all pain. Because, honestly, this game is gonna hurt.

And if you’ll still not be convinced? Just wait for a flipping demonstration of monster attacks in the trailer; that monster flips like some supernatural acrobat. Yeah, we were sold.
