The fans asked, begged, politely (somewhat) demanded, and the miracle happened. Wargroove. Gets. Physical.

The turn-based strategy game was released February 1st, 2019 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Reception was overwhelmingly positive, many praising the game’s retro style, challenging gameplay, inventive setup, and the map creation mode.

While initially billed as a ‘medieval Advance Wars’ (which it admittedly does share a lot of elements with), it’s more than capable of holding up on its own, and the frequent interaction Chucklefish has with its fanbase certainly scores it extra points, especially with the map design contest earlier this year. And the fanbase has been steadily growing, with smaller contests and communities appearing to share strategies, maps, and more.

Before now, Wargroove was a digital only release, and while a physical edition was teased, nothing was outright confirmed. Gone are those days, and not only are we getting confirmation, we’re getting some extra treats to go along with it.

Wargroove goes physical with a Deluxe Edition, which not only has a disc/cartridge for the game, but a downloadable soundtrack, a commander sprite sticker sheet, a mini strategy manual, and more, including a reversible cover sheet, for those who want all art, no logos.

A definite release date is unknown at this time, but is expected for fall of 2019, and pricing is as follows: £19.99 / $29.99 / €29.99 on PS4, and £29.99 / $39.99 / €39.99 on Nintendo Switch.

Notably, this is the first ever physical Chucklefish game release, a rarity for an indie developer, and especially within the same year. Could we be seeing more in the future, maybe not just from Chucklefish, but other game studios? Time will tell!

Chucklefish remains involved with their fanbase even now, and their approachability has earned them great favor, bringing more people into the fold, and their swiftness with updates and patches ensures Wargroove won’t be circling the drain anytime soon.

The Wargroove Deluxe Edition is only for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 at this time (alas, Xbox One users), and more info is set to release as time goes on. Until next time, stay and play savvy, gamers!
