EA Sports dropped a cataclysmic boulder of a news update for the players of UFC 5. Mixed in nostalgia, it has three iconic fighters from their early days-Kimbo Slice, Jorge Masvidal, and Alex Caceres-who fought in those notorious Florida backyard brawls before stepping into bigger arenas.

Let’s clear that out: Kimbo was undisputed in the underground fight scene before going mainstream with MMA. Just his inclusion will be enough to make the old-timers go nuts. The other two, Jorge Masvidal, aka Gamebred, and Alex Caceres, aka Bruce Leeroy, complete the encore lineup that allows the players to relive their very raw, very unfiltered beginnings.

The moment the EA Sports UFC official Twitter broke the news, the responses started to pour in. Players such as BrianM73673 were going on about some good ol’ days, commenting: “Every time I see my boy Kimbo makes me happy. Good man.” Then some others, like lone_jade, expressed confusion: “Why the fk is Alex Caceres getting an alter ego?”

Others replied with celebrations but a good number then began debating about what the game is missing. WorthSnider10 throws shots at EA: “If you have the exclusive license to the UFC to make the game, make it the right way.” Then ericksheldon40 calls to more legends: “Where is Royce Gracie with Gi? Ken Shamrock? Mirko Cro Cop? WTF???”

Therein lie his pronouncements upon the update from EA. “Doing everything but adding Ilia to the fking lightweight division,” whispered @young_baller291. “@mxbbytrxdes” then responded with humor: “I bet this will be in UFC 6 as a ‘new feature.'”

Still, the Alter Ego: Origins II drop remains one of the dopest tributes to MMA history. It’s crazy to think these guys went from battling in the backyards to having scenes immortalized in a video game. Whether you like it or want EA to spend some time working on more important fixes, at least this gives players something new and exciting to try.

If you’re still looking for a chance at brawling with a prime Kimbo or youngblood Masvidal, this is your chance. Just don’t expect everyone to stop their begging any time soon because, honestly, the entire UFC 5 community will never be satisfied until every fighter alive or dead gets their due.

And who knows, maybe EA will actually put the Venum shorts in next time, which everyone keeps complaining about. Or maybe not.
