THQ Nordic dished out plenty of announcements during their Twitch event, and gamers started losing their minds on the very spot. From a surprise Gothic 1 Remake demo to a very much awaited PS5 release date confirmation for SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide, it was all about the old and some recent hype. Oh, and if that were not enough, cases melting Reanimal might already be the new players’ obsession.
Starting with the Gothic 1 Remake. This cult-classic RPG is turning into a full professional-grade modern makeover, with reactions running the gamut from immature “nostalgia overload” to grown-up “why wasn’t this announced sooner?” When it first came out, Gothic split between the masses; it was hard, unfair, world-build deep. Now, with Hacker visuals and hopefully smooth gameplay, the remake could seal the deal for another generation. Some fans have started comparing it to Skyrim now, but let’s really dish on it-Gothic was doing dark fantasy RPGs before it was cool!
Now we switch to SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide with a confirmed PS5 release date. The internet’s favorite sponge is back to stir excitement. One player went on to share that they have been playing the original SpongeBob games with their 2-year-old daughter and just begging for Atlantis SquarePants to get a remake. I call that wholesome gaming. Other gamers, on the other hand, are just glad that Bikini Bottom will be restored to next gen glory, even if it is going to eat away at their GTA Online playtime.
Now, the real strange one? Reanimal. We have a few scant details, but the name itself is being deconstructed into wild theories. Is it a survival game? Is it horror? Or a weird crossover of both? One thing we can be sure of is the fact that people are calling it their most anticipated title without knowing what it is yet. There you go: the power of a good name drop.
Although not everybody was impressed. Some took the consumer show as the coffin for good video games, with a few sick of waiting while demanding the fixing of their PS3 avatars (seriously, who’s still holding out on that one?). There’s a guy who wants his own Iraqi PlayStation Store, too. Priorities, people.
More debates were spawned by the Showcase: Where’s Darksiders 4? Why is Wreckfest not getting PSVR2 support? And most importantly, when could we expect a remake of WWE Here Comes the Pain? (OK, I might be going just a tad overboard here.)
The THQ Nordic lineup is either truly lovely or the pure definition of chaotic, depending on which way you look at it. From hardcore RPG revivals to cartoony platformers, they are covering the whole spectrum. If you will excuse us, the Gothic Remake demo page will find us somewhere till the time it unlocks.
