A new update to Wreckfest 2’s Roadmap was announced by THQ Nordic just this morning with the players responding with a slew of hype. The big announcement being that two new tracks and cars will be dropping this August. But, wait: Developers have gone on to crowdsource and ask the hands-raising community what they want in upcoming updates. And boy, the answers have been ranging wild from requests, to complaints, and outright demands.

In all seriousness, the August update sounds like a good-evil addition. New tracks mean, of course, new mayhem, and new cars mean new ways to trash and smash the opposition. Some are cheering for it; even so, there are issues popping in. Simon D. still crashes, he’s just trying to run the thing while his system is in stutter mode. I can’t really blame him, can I?

Next up there is the Legion Go crowd. Vittorionzolo straight-up asked for those optimized settings for the handheld; fair enough. If anyone wants to play Wreckfest on the go, they sure do not want lousy performance. And then, Hollis suggested an onboard track map to see who’s coming up behind. Brilliant idea for a game where getting blindsided is at least half the fun.

However, that’s not all there is to calls for corrective action for the standard gameplay. Other requests are waiting for the launch of the physical copy. XelaRemag and DoesItPlay1 are stressing over a full disc version without bombardment from internet requirements. And seriously? Respect. The go-physical-everything-only type of guy isn’t joking about that. THQ Nordic’s answer, though? Well, “First, we need to get all the content. After that, let’s see.” Classic dev sidestep, but at least they’re listening.

Then there were the PS5 guys desperate to get their hands on this next-gen version: LukeRane and cooldude223344. And TheSkinnyRage? He is requesting PSVR2 support. Just imagine wrecking cars in VR: it’s either the best idea ever or a next-step motion-sickness bonanza.

Don’t even get me started on the very minimal requests. Game Or Die just wants menu music, as presently, booting the game feels “like a weird half-baked early access game.” Can’t argue with him there. Some tunes in the background would do it. Meanwhile, jakedevey7 is after mod support and more early access tournaments. And big vehicles. Namely, the school bus. Because who in their right mind wouldn’t want to race around in a giant yellow death machine?

The trick for Wreckfest has always been that it is a game that belongs to the people. The fact that THQ Nordic is openly consulting with players on what they want next is quite promising. Rally modes, point-to-point races, or just the damn crashes, the ideas are plenty. December’s update is locked in; this crew definitely hasn’t slowed some.

What’s next? More tracks? More cars? Maybe VR surprises? Time will tell. One thing is known: The gaming community absolutely knows how to express their opinion. THQ Nordic better keep listening, or this game is getting too crazy. And that is exactly how it ought to be.
