In honor of Halloween, Alone in the Dark reboot publisher THQ Nordic published a tiny teaser trailer that, although being little over twenty seconds long, is just as eerie as diehard fans of the series would wish. Unfortunately, there are no concrete indicators about the potential quality of the finished product in the new Alone in the Dark teaser, but that may just add to the title’s allure.

After the Resident Evil franchise established the term in 1996, many people looked back to the 1992 release of Alone in the Dark. They decided it was the first actual survival horror experience. Alone in the Dark stood out from the crowd with its dark, enigmatic atmosphere and clear nods to horror greats like H.R. Giger and H.P. Lovecraft.

Despite being overshadowed by recently revitalized genre titans like Resident Evil and Dead Space in the current day, the new Alone in the Dark title looks promising based on the taut survival horror combat and fascinating 1920s flair shown in the trailers.

The new Alone in the Dark video doesn’t reveal much about the future project beyond a collection of eerie toys in a child’s bedroom and a noose hanging in an attic. Still, it does confirm that horror will remain a prominent part of the franchise. The new game’s release date has not been announced, but publisher THQ Nordic and developer Pieces Interactive have said that it would be a reinterpretation of the original.

This is expected to be in the same style as the critically acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2 developed by Capcom. It will also feature the return of Edward Carnby and Emily Heartwood, the original protagonists of Alone in the Dark.
