PlayStation announced on their blog that The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game will be coming to systems soon. The game is based on the tabletop card game that was created by Fantasy Flight Games in 2011. The game is planned to be released on August 8th exclusive for the PlayStation community.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is a narrative card game set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Players put together a fellowship of up to three heroes from the Free Folk and embark on an adventure against the forces of Shadow that are directed by Sauron.

As a narrative-based game, players encounter friends and foes as they adventure across familiar locations that are born from the lore in the books. Players can make their legends through the use of the game decks as they adventure through Middle-Earth.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is unique as it focuses on solo and cooperative play rather than player vs. player style that most card games use. Each player picks three heroes from some of the most famous characters of Middle-Earth. Each hero has one of four spheres of influence – leadership, lore, spirit, or tactics – allowing players to use special reinforcement cards while in-game.

The journey contains significant challenges; taking advantage of your heroes and decks will be the key to victory in battle. Some players may choose to rely on your heroes’ willpower to increase your fate pool, which is used to trigger powerful abilities that can turn the tide of battle.

Every quest is unique, requiring players to experiment with strategies as they confront more and more terrifying foes. The Dark Lord will do everything to stop you from completing your journey. As the threat pool increases story events will activate, causing the quest to become more difficult.

The game lets players follow the story of The Fellowship of the Ring, which is the multi-year period after Bilbo retires to Rivendell, leaving the ring with Frodo. The game is set during this timeframe but before Frodo begins his epic journey. The developers are choosing this period due to its potential for a great adventure as dark stirrings slowly spread over Middle-Earth.

This game is perfect for fans of digital card games and Lord of the Rings as it mixes both worlds into an epic adventure of your own. Keep an eye out for this game release as it is coming to the digital store on August 8th.
