After launching the world’s first 8K OLED and a rollable OLED TV, LG is back again with another world’s first. This time, the South Korean multinational electronics company has surprised gamers with a new line of gaming monitors boasting blistering 1 Ms gray-to-gray response time. Meet the LG UltraGear family that consists of a 27-inch (27GL850) and a 38-inch (38GL950G) monitor.
The company has dubbed the UltraGear as a ‘gamer’s dream come true’ for its overclockable refresh rate and exclusive features for gaming. The fast response time in the IPS (In-Plane Switching) display takes performance to the level of Twisted Nematic (TN) panels.
The LG UltraGear is sleek and stylish, featuring an ultra-thin bezel design that makes the panel virtually borderless. A unique feature exclusive to the 38-inch model is Sphere Lighting 2.0, a cool RGB lighting system at the back.
The 27-inch model is a flat panel Nano IPS display with a resolution of QHD 2,560 x 1,440 and 16:9 aspect ratio. The UltraGear 27GL850 has HDR10 and supports Nvidia G-SYNC which minimizes shutter, screen tearing and lag guaranteeing smooth transitions. With this model, you get a cool 144Hz refresh rate, which is suitable for the average GPU hungry games. The LG 27GL850 has two HDMI ports and DisplayPort.
On the other hand, the 38-inch is a curved display with WQHD 3,840 x 1,600 resolution and 21:9 aspect ratio. This model takes advantage of the 1 ms GTG response time to deliver the best in class gaming performance when paired up with a good GPU.
One of the highlights of the 38-inch is the 144Hz refresh rate, which can be overclocked to 175Hz. When it comes to Adaptive Syncing, the 38-inch also features Nvidia G-SYNC. With this model, HDR fans get VESA DisplayHDR 400.
Apart from the standard features, LG has some exclusive packs for different gaming scenarios. First is Crosshair, which is built explicitly for fps games and enhances accuracy. Black Stabilizer helps to reveal specific details in the dark setting. Other features dedicated to gaming include Dynamic Action Sync which ensures there’s no lag in input and output between the CPU and monitor.
It’s not yet clear whether the Dynamic Action Sync and Black Stabilizer features will be available in the 38-inch, but Crosshair is confirmed standard feature.
The LG 38GL950G 38-inch gaming monitor is what every gamer dreams of. It is bigger, and overclockable and features RGB lighting. Unfortunately, LG has remained lip tied about its availability. As for the 27-inch, pre-orders will be available as from 1st July in the US and Q3 for Europe.
