With close to two weeks till the big day, the hype train has been roaring at full speed. Opening up till late on 6th June, and held at the Youtube Theater from 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT / 9 PM GMT, promises are set for an entire suite of special guests, new game announcements, and so much more. The fans are rendin’ their hair to bits with possibilities as they show them in the replies to their official tweet.

In this way, a long-time groupie of the whole gaming industry for a big overview of what’s to come, the Soirée has given gamers a hundred pounds to work with in their own alley. The wishlists are pouring: Resident Evil 9, Kingdom Hearts 4, while others are actually cutting new fingers to keep striking the refresh button for some surprise “Available now” drop because really, who is physically going into a theater when these days they have their phones and laptops at home?

One of the loudest requests has surely been for the Resident Evil 9 trailer. The replies to the official tweet were quite straightforward about their requests, willing Capcom to just turn up with anything-from anything-from the survival horror franchise: one person said, “RE 9 give us anything,” while another jokingly expressed, “Trailers for games that come out in 2035, please.” Usual masquerading wit of gamers; we’ve all been burned by some form or the other.

Then, those hopefuls from Kingdom Hearts are praying and eagerly waiting for the KH4 teaser. “Plz give us a KH4 trailer,” tweeted another fan alongside an animated Sora gif with tears. Square-Enix sneaking a tease for Kingdom Hearts wouldn’t be that surprising—then again, this is the same series that gave us “Kingdom Hearts HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue,” so who even knows anymore?

Others would like to see announcements for a NieR sequel, Persona 6, and God Eater 4. And then there are the Mafia fans still crying for that “Mafia old country” trailer? (Have no clue what that actually means, but there is passion for it.)

But surely, not everyone was convinced. One user claimed, “Lousy show per record,” unless of course, it can be argued to the contrary. Fairly so: The Summer Game Fest has had its hits and misses, but it’s never the same without that possibility of a wild drop with Geoff Keighley at the helm. Remember when Elden Ring appeared out of nowhere? Yeah.”

The duration of the stream is still under question, with an outright query from a fan and no word coming from the official account. Typical. But, if we follow precedent, expect tons of hype, a lot of awkward pauses, and at least one “Wait, what was that?” kind of moment.

Canceled. Get to it. Set alarms. Bring snacks along. Either for better or worse, this Summer Game Fest 2025 is bound to become memorable. Fingers crossed for that Resident Evil 9 trailer or at least another Geoff Keighley reaction meme-worthy of an Emmy.
