Listen up, RPG-weary souls; this is your moment. These are for those who have been sleeping on Suikoden. Now is the time to awaken. Hint dropped by none other than the Konami-sized, tweet screaming, This is your sign to play Suikoden I & II HD Remaster ✨ And honestly? Truly.
For those too young to remember when PlayStation role-playing games were THE way to spend your non-summer evenings, Suikoden was that series. Political intrigue, 108 characters, and war battles, which did, indeed, feel epic. The first two installments?
Perhaps the example of the classic. An HD remaster had been overdue: thus, come to sharp sprites, slick menus, and perhaps a bit of well-earned reproach for the alteration of our memories.
You see, the thing about that tweet is that there really was a setup for it. Fans have been demanding this remaster for years. For years, even. Suikoden II is one of those games resold for hundreds of dollars, and an original physical copy is rare as one good argument on Twitter; this is a rescue for the underserviced souls who never got to play it or just want their this game a lot.
A simple tweet, no date, no new teaser- just a vibe check. And honestly? That’s kind of nice. It’s nice that a publisher would just skip the overblown promises and fluff in favor of a simple “Hey, play these masterpieces.” The accompanying image (which we can’t see but can picture) probably flashed all those gorgeous HD-updated sprites that make us teary-eyed.
What is strange, however, is the silence underneath. Normally, this kind of announcement would send caps-lock fandom screaming and demanding some Suikoden VI announcement. But nothing. Perhaps everyone is just busy unbuttoning their wallets? Ooooor maybe—big ooooor—the fandom has kept its breath until the day of the announcement and is now waiting to report a release date from Konami.
What’s next? Looking at history, we are pretty sure that Konami will leave us hanging for a while. At least we know it will be out, and this is where expectation lies; when it does, you better believe RPG fans are going to go crazy.
This loving remaster straight goes up on the want list, no matter who has played Suikoden. But in case someone did play it? Well… enjoy it again! Just don’t come blaming us when you are emotionally wrecked by that one scene in Suikoden II once again.
