The Sentinels esports organization came out with their new hockey style jerseys with mixed reviews. With some players being hyped, other were downright confused, wondering why hockey style. The team tweet a picture of merchandise that said, “so what do we think of the new jersey 🏒,” and the responses were just brilliant.
Firstly, the design is loved by all. Tanthin chimed in and said it was his favorite, but “out of my price range for now 😭.” And Rob Moore from the Sentinels said it’s really a hockey jersey, not just some kind of statement fashion. But some don’t quite agree: Hal said, “the proportions don’t match and it makes them look a lil funny. They need baggier pants.” Fair enough, II’ll give him that.
Then started the shenanigans with regard to shipping. Joseph Roney wanted to know if his partner could pick the jersey up in Toronto instead of waiting for the delivery since they want to wear it for the Masters event. Rob Moore responded that the first shipment got rushed to the players; the second shipment is being sent to Toronto for a watch party; and that the rest are expected to go out by the end of the month: “We are going as fast as we can!!” Then Anthony Siminiuk expressed frustration, “That shipping is good everywhere except in Canada.” Oof.
Some players just wanted to have a good laugh. Free Advice Guy came in with puns: “You are definitely a QT if you wear one of these. You could say they are…bangers. It would be awesome to N4RRATE the game while they are wearing these. I’ll show myself out.” Mr.slickman, on the other hand, had another hilarious burn with “Getting grouped never looked so good.” Terrible but funny.
Then came the confusion. Abhijeet Mohanta practically shouted back, “Hockey?” And pretty much everyone else agreed. Jamtech18 mused, “what happens if a player wants to play short sleeves?” Valid question. SENSalty joked, “Person designing the jersey really said let’s get harder.”
One thing is for sure, although the reaction is mixed so far, the people are talking. Either about design, or shipping delays, or even how the heck hockey jerseys fit into an esports environment- Sendinels have definitely grabbed some attention. So if for nothing else, that’s enough to keep the ball rolling.
So will these be another staple in memoriam, or will they rot away into obscurity, much like last season’s merch? Well, only time will tell. Until then, the Sentinels players can either rock these with pride or keep giving wicked side-eyes to the entire concept, which still is content.
