Alright, mates and fellow seekers of treasure-Sea of Thieves has just announced yet another set of Twitch Drops for Sea of Thieves, and the reactions have been, um, indeed very colorful. Between now and the 27th of June (10 am UTC), all one needs to do is chill out and watch any Sea of Thieves Partner stream to be showered with drops such as renown, gold, voyages, and some nice cosmetics. Well, the catch-and it’s a big catch-is that the viewing needs to last a full six hours. Yeah, six hours!

The loot, of course: The Dawn Hunter Hat, Beachcomber’s Bounty Wheel (some swear that they’ve seen this before in one of the previous Plunder Passes), a compass, on top of some gold and renown boosts. One would imagine these aren’t exactly awesome items; yet, hey, a freebie comes free, right?

Then there are those who remain quite displeased. The community is sprawled between those rushing to their keyboards to term these drops “a joke” or “a waste of 60 minutes.” Player @mfsharty didn’t pull any punches: “These actually suck.” Ouch. Then we had users like @weaver_frost who brought up the grind-to-reward ratio: “Wait we have to watch for 6 hours and we only get a compass and a wheel are you serious.”

Classic nostalgia commentary arrives. “@konan1337” went into the whole back-in-my-day thing: “Back in my day, we used to be able to earn things like obsidian cannons from twitch drops… 👴.” That is true; the old drops were totally rad. Obsidian weapons, rare ship cosmetics-makes the grind worth it! Now? A wheel and some gold.

Still, some are happy. And with a bit more savvy, they even wish to hear that @Kokokatten says they are not restricted behind Partner streams-only small victories! Some, like @MaxDeadP00l95, haven’t played it on PC yet but are already excited.

But the biggest gripe? Gold and fame. Players complain that gold is practically worthless in Sea of Thieves economy while renown can be earned with little effort-AFKing for 10 min. @Sammyw51686 offered his noblest verdict: “The economy is so broke that gold is meaningless… These are a joke.”

There’s some real effort put into it by Rare, though. Beachcomber’s Bounty Wheel might be a rehash, but at least it’s something. And the Dawn Hunter Hat? Pretty darn cool; the pants-not so much (thanks for the heads-up, @Kokokatten).

Next? If you are an ardent fan of SoT, then maybe it is worth the grind. If you expected the glory days of Twitch Drops? Well… watch this space. Or just mute the Twitch stream and go about your business.

Anyway, the drops are asked to be judged; time is ticking. The pirates are mildly ticked but supremely curious. Classic SoT, of course.

One request from @siga445: “Add back golden sailer cannons.” Rare, you listening?
