All aboard the pirate ship! Rare dropped some gigantic news about Sea of Thieves, which has just set the whole town aflame with buzzing. And it has been really raging over these beautiful icy Cobalt Kestrel weapons which are crowning everyone’s wish list. Not that way, apparently. No throwing up any random chest or earning it from the kraken. No! These are only available for picking upon pre-purchasing any edition of Sea of Thieves on Battle.net. No blizzard rumors here, only hard facts.

So how do these weapons do their thing? The Cobalt Kestrel set is just made for the icy-cool. Ice-blue steel, beautiful and artsy engravings that just scream, “I plunder in style.” I’m telling you, when they’re combined with a battlecry, they look really intimidating. Pull them out in the fight and suddenly, intimidation (and knowing you have some money extra) is brought to your enemies.

This is where it gets slightly debatable. Exclusive cosmetics locked behind pre-orders is not a new trend in gaming, but always it brings mixed feelings. Do they serve as good enticements for early adopters? On the other hand…what of the gamers who like to grind for their gear? Or the ones who find the game later? It is one of those old-school debates: loyalty or not, but don’t pump the brakes on RNG rewards.

And, to be frank, Sea of Thieves has already had its cosmetic exclusives. Black Dog Pack? Ferryman? Just another collector’s gold out of preorders or promos. If the trend continues, it would be now or never to snag Cobalt Kestrel before it joins “should’ve got it while you had the chance” vault.

If you’re fired up about getting into Sea of Thieves or really getting back into it, considering the game all but drags us back in with its ceaseless updates, pre-ordering may become quite worth your while. Battle.net actually has options: Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, or whatever deluxe bundle they have going on. Whichever you wish, you’ll have yourself a hefty asset of frosty firepower;

But the question is… will these make you a pirate? Probably not, but they will improve your glamor stats while the galleon crew sinks you, for sure. In a game where looking good counts for half the battle, that has to be something.

So yes, if you’re into that kind of thing-hitting icy elegance-pre-order before it sets sail. All that will be left to do after that is to covet someone else’s Cobalt Kestrel cutlass from its… business end.
