Rockstar Games has just released a new VIP program and the player reactions are … how to put it … a total mess. The company said that “Ascend into the Gold Tier of Prix Luxury Real Estate’s new VIP program” would be the players who engaged in three New Listings missions by December 7. And the rewards are great: a whopping GTA$2,000,000 off future mansion estates, a direct GTA$1,000,000 cash bonus and a Rockstar Varsity Crewneck for your character’s closet. It’s a totally GTA Online move—do missions, get great in-game currency plus goodies.
But if you are planning to check the people’s reactions to the announcement, be prepared for a battlefield where one side is the content-seekers and the other side consists of the shouting-for-GTA-6 fans. The community is, in fact, very much divided.
The pro camp is very helpful to the players. User IronRed | SandHive was already planning to go through the grind so she said on twitter, “2 million off a mansion? Craziness. Let’s team up and do the New Listings missions this weekend, what do you say? 2M discount & 1M bonus!” Another user, Ken Mactavish, seemed to have easily passed the requirements, saying, “The three mission in the Gold Tier of Prix Luxury Real Estate’s was so easy to finished. and …. Yeah!!✌🏻😆 Thanks for the money 💰 💰💰 Can’t wait to purchase luxury penthouse and see what inside.👀✨” So for a few, this is an update that is more than welcome and comes with rewards that are actually useful.
On the opposite side, there is the contrary position. And it is really loud. A large number of comments are just rephrase of the same question “Where is GTA 6?” User LiyoLusy’s answer was a meme of a guy staring at the camera with a text on it saying “Where is GTA 6.” This feeling was reiterated by many. User aro_oyinda12627 was very clear: “Any thing but gta6.” Another user, wangzhendan, wrote, “Dude you guys just need to publish that GTA6.” The demand for the next main series game is so strong that it seems the impatience can actually be felt through the screen.
Some users have already completely turned their backs on GTA Online. User DJB1087 simply voiced, “I don’t think anyone cares anymore 😂,” while RedEyeJedi shared a more pessimistic, “This is a great game but I cant even force myself to play it anymore.” There is a feeling among the gamers that after more than a decade, they are ready to move on from Los Santos and find out what is next. User OMERTA was even more forthright when he said, “People dont play this shit nomore , that why they keep delay the game, STOP PLAY THAT SHIT ,!! Is been 12 yrs and yall not boring tha game is old asf, everbody who are playing gta5 is the problem not Rockstar.” He claims that the present player base is the reason for Rockstar’s continuing focus on the online component.
The disbelief also extends to the rewards. User KammyBuckets humorously calculated the actual price of the house, “😂😂 mf bout to be 10 mil base another 10 million w house upgrades.” Thus, even the 2 million discount is not enough to convince players that the new properties will be anything but modestly priced given the prevailing trend in GTA Online’s economy. User ALPrime merely pointed out that Rockstar is “trolling us at this point,” which was by and large the sentiment of many others who were exasperated.
Random and hilarious side comments have also been a big factor in the proliferation of social media activity. User noa_order referred to the VIP program as “Very Important Pricks, that’s you!” Another user, Pr0digyZRX, while looking at the promo image, noticed the character model feet and asked, “Why does his feet look so much different than his arms hands face ect? Like its not even his feet or something.” It one can really discern the wide range of human thoughts from these replies.
So what is the situation? PlayStation and Xbox players are seeing Rockstar doing exactly the same thing as always: it is still giving its live-service cash cow the support of new content and Intelli-gence keep-g-g players engaged (and, let’s be honest, possibly spending even more money). The rewards of the VIP program are, for sure, very attractive for committed GTA Online players. A discount of 2 million dollars and a bonus of 1 million dollars are not coins for a game where money is king.
