Nintendo has confirmed that Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is indeed underway. However, the Japanese gaming company has not revealed a release date. \n \nHowever, a leak from Twitter user Sabi claimed that the game is slated for a 2020 release date. The reason why the rumor gained momentum is because of the source. The user has been known to be very reliable in the past. \n \n \n \n \nSabi also said that the post wasn’t based on speculation, but rather current plans by Nintendo. With that said, the company is notorious for not meeting its goals. This means that nobody would be surprised if the Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 will be delayed. \n \nLater, the journalist said that fans should take the Twitter post with a grain of salt. \n \nA follow-up is; indeed, a long time coming. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 on Wii U and Nintendo Switch. But fans should temper their enthusiasm considering Nintendo’s history. \n \nFor instance, there was a six-year gap between Breath of the Wild and Zelda: Skyward Sword. Before that, Nintendo took five years to develop Skyward Sword from Twilight Princess. Based on those timelines, you would think that the Breath of the Wild 2 release date would be in 2022. \n \nWith that said, it took Nintendo only two years for Nintendo to release Ocarina of Time from Majora’s Mask. And there was only a two-year gap between Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker. \n \nSo, it is not impossible for Nintendo to release Breath of the Wild 2 in 2020. Granted, its track record in recent years is worrying. Besides, you also have to consider the scope of the project. Nintendo only confirmed the sequel a little less than five months ago. There are so many things that can go wrong when you are talking about an expansive open-world like Zelda. \n \nNevertheless, fans have reasons to be optimistic. For one, the reason for the delay of Breath of the Wild was that Nintendo had to build a new physics engine. The company also had to rework the visuals. There’s a reason why the game was a critical and commercial success. With the sequel, Nintendo doesn't have to tinker under the hood as much. That means it shouldn't take the company as much time. \n \nAt the very least, Nintendo is working on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. If it’s not coming out next year, they can wait for a few more links to continue the journey.
