PlayStation announced the June lineup for PlayStation Plus, and it’s… interesting. Four games will join the service next month: NBA 2K25, Alone in the Dark (2024), Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and Destiny 2: The Final Shape. The great unknown: sports, horror, retro action, and, well, Destiny expansion. Reaction, as always, range from totally opposite perspectives.

Starting with NBA 2K25. It’s almost a tradition that every year the 2K game makes it to Plus. And then there are groans, as usual. “Don’t even waste ya time on 2K25 even if it’s free,” was an actual comment. Ouch. But then again, if you are into basketball sims, here is your chance to grab it without spending a buck.

Next up is Alone in the Dark (2024). This one has its defenders. “Everybody should play Alone in the Dark,” a Twitter user said. A modern reboot of the classic horror series, so if you are about those eerie ambiance and psychological terror, might as well pack your bag now. Although, let’s all be upfront—horror piques polarizing options at best.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk stands favorite among many gamers. This one better pass for a love letter to Jet Set Radio, and fans of old-school skating/graffiti games are hyped-up. A gamer called it “better than all of them,” referring to the Jet Set Radio series. Now, that’s praise! For all the yearning for funky, stylish, arcadey action, here is your game.

Then there is… Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Oh boy. Destiny expansions on PS Plus are always contested. Some players are excited: “Wow! Nice? I’ve bought every expansion for destiny 1 & 2 up to Lightfall & said enough is enough after the shameless sunsetting!! .. it might be worth me jumping back on now ?” Then others sniped, “A Destiny 2 Expansion….? LAAAME,” and let’s not even begin about the on-going debates about Destiny 2’s vaulted content where those who paid for expansions watch the story on YouTube. Yikes.

Others are ready to voice their unhappiness: “Glad I let my Plus subscription expire. Won’t be renewing until you start adding better games.” Another said outright, “CAN WE GET A GOOD GAME PLEASE?” Harsh, but hey, opinions are like… well, you know.

There have been whispers of other titles sneaking in, like Another Crab’s Treasure, that, as another player pointed out, is free this month as well. So if the official lineup fails you, maybe that’s your fallback.

In the end, the offers for PS Plus in June turn out quite diversified: hits and misses. Loads of opinions. For basketball, horror, retro vibes, and a bit of Destiny drama, there’s a little bit of everything. Wings is at least guaranteed to stir the eternal debate that “PS Plus is getting worse.”

So, what about you: are you downloading any of these? Or is this one month your hard drive just stays empty? Either way, one thing we can all agree on is that the PlayStation lineup announcements never fail to be a great talking point. And sometimes shouting point. Mostly shouting, really.
