This completely wild new limited-time event has been unleashed in Overwatch 2: Hacks & Hijinx brings mayhem and madness into the setting. The main thing here? 8-Bit Sombra hacking into the matches with a barrage of hilarious glitches-well, just “one” way of putting the regular gameplay to get nudged out. Think Vampiric Healing, Hyper Speed, Super Jump, and so much more. It’s almost as if someone nice and easy dusted off their old NES cartridge and shoved it into Overwatch 2.

The official blog laid out the insane shenanigans one by one, but here is the bottom line: pure anarchy unleashed. Its range of matches takes the 6v6 concepts (which send some people into seizures upon conception), and that modifier changes the flow that might send you off to laughing hysterically, or just straight into some rage-quits. The much-sought-after throwback of April Fools-style gameplay is a whole argument in and of itself.

Speaking of the reactions, the replies on the tweet from Blizzard tell another story. Some of them read: ‘Wait, this looks so cool.’ Others just couldn’t hold back. ‘Mode fucking sucks should’ve just brought classic back,’ another complains. And here begins the flood of demands: Summer Games, Roadhog update, and even a Switch 2 port (seriously?).

But now, the true drama: performance of the mode. Some Xbox players state that is running like buns, with some outright refusing to grind through the required matches for the rewards. “I have to play like 10 games of that shit to get the rewards? Come on,” one aggravated gamer grinned. Some others then entered the realm of weird bugs, like capturing points from which an entire team lags out while the enemy carries on as normal. Classic Overwatch experience, really.

Despite some fine compliments and wide-range criticism, Hacks & Hijinx is followed by a completely different tune. Fun distraction or complete disaster really depends on who you ask. So, at least it’s not grinding for another battle pass, right?

Anyone willing to get sucked into this madness can do so right now. Don’t blame us if some start having motion sickness due to all the Hyper Speed antics. And if anyone is still holding out hope for Summer Games or a Roadhog rework…maybe tweet at Blizzard some more. They’re definitely reading those. Probably.
