Nintendo just threw one of their cryptic teases, and with that, fans have gone mad. Perhaps the first official hint is about the long-rumored Switch 2? Now in its shadows, an image depicting several Joy-Cons seemingly hooked up together was posted today, saying, “Now you’re playing together. SUPER TOGETHER. Look familiar? đź‘€ #NintendoSwitch2.”
No specs, no release date, not even a very clear image. Just vibes. Yet, it has almost been deconstructed with a Zapruder film-level importance for the net. The “Super Together” phrase is triggering another avalanche of theorizing.
Some think this could be a reference to the SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System), indicating the next console may have a retro branding slant. Others see this as a nudge towards multiplayer upgrade—focusing either on local co-op or maybe even shared-screen gameplay.
And of course, #NintendoSwitch2. Not much ambiguity about that. Though Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything about a Switch successor in any official voice, the blatant tagging of an official tweet somehow feels like confirmation.
Fans are freely quoting Nintendo despite its party pooper stance of shutting down replies. Some want 4K support; some want backward compatibility; some delusional souls are still praying for a port of Mother 3.
This has had a vague existence for Nintendo for a while now, but with rumors of a reveal coming in 2024, this post could just be the first breadcrumb leading to what seems like an extremely deftly choreographed marketing plan. Or trolling; which, to be fair, is an equally credible option.
Either way, this is going to be a fun time. If indeed the hype train of Switch 2 is being set in motion, the road already seems bumpier than expected. And if it just dies off, well, mighty good stuff for memes.
Better keep those notifications on because Nintendo is obviously brewing something. If there is anything that history has taught us about Nintendo, their surprises either shake the room or blow your mind. No in-betweens.
