The PC early access version of Slime Rancher 2, the follow-up to Monomi Park‘s 2017 smash hit about cultivating amorphous jelly blobs, will squish onto PC in September.

It is a sequel of sorts to the first game and carries on Beatrix LeBeau’s ooze experiences. It has a similar combination of exploration, construction, agriculture, and, of course, gathering dazzling slime poo to trade for money.

However, Slime Rancher 2 will take place on Rainbow Island rather than the Far Far Range, which served as the setting for the first game. It’s also noticeably prettier than the original, which had environments that were merely pleasant to the eye.

Of course, there will be a tonne of new slimes to find on Rainbow Island, such as the cotton slime that resembles a rabbit or the angler slime, which has a rather ominous appearance.

These slimes can be crossed with one another, as in the original game, by feeding one slime’s, well, leftovers to another kind of slime, apparently to produce new sorts of slimes. Delicious!

According to the Steam page for Slime Rancher 2, the early access edition of the prequel will debut with “a vast universe to explore, numerous different slimes to gather and mix, and an insight into the storyline and the enigma of Rainbow Island.”

Additionally, Monomi Park estimates that the game will stay in early access for “at least 18 months,” adding that “we have a significant amount of content scheduled for version 1.0 and are a no-crunch studio, so we will give the production the time that it needs.”

On September 22, Slime Rancher 2 will be made available for early access on Steam and the Epic Games Story. You can access it from the start on Microsoft’s subscription service if you have a Game Pass membership.
