The launch of 2K Sports’ annual NBA game, NBA 2K20, is right around the corner, as the popular annual sports title is currently scheduled to be released on September 6. So, naturally, you’d think that new gameplay footage is right around the corner, and it is, but it just wasn’t officially provided by the developers, as it was leaked ahead of schedule.
YouTube user BADGEPLUG recently uploaded a video that featured footage from what appeared to be a behind closed doors demonstration of NBA 2K20. The video, which you’ll be able to check out below, features a few short clips from the demo, and it doesn’t look like there’s going to be anything different coming in this year’s installment.
It appears that there are a lot of similarities between the gameplay in NBA 2K20 and the gameplay in NBA 2K17, which could mean that the franchise is moving backward instead of forward. Of course, the NBA 2K games have largely been the same over the last few years, but this doesn’t mean that the 2K fanbase will accept a brand new game that feels exactly like an old one, especially if it feels like a game that was released almost three years ago.
It’s possible that the upcoming NBA season will be the most unpredictable one we’ve had in recent memory, which might mean that a big year could be on the horizon for 2K Sports’ most popular title. If that ends up being the case, then the developers should end up creating a game that looks and feels different from its predecessors. But, as of right now at least, that doesn’t appear to be the case with NBA 2K20.
Even though the gameplay shown in the leak looks very reminiscent of NBA 2K17, the developers have promised that the upcoming 2K20 will have a few noteworthy new features, one of which is the addition of the WNBA. As of right now, 2K hasn’t been clear as to how the WNBA will be used in the game, but it’s probably pretty safe to assume that they’re going to give players the option to play through the MyCareer mode as either a male or female.
The player ratings for the game were also revealed recently, with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard being the two highest-rated players in the game, as each was given a 97 overall rating. These ratings will surely change throughout the NBA’s regular season due to 2K’s dynamic roster updates that are based on real-life player performance.
