Naughty Dog and Sony recently announced that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, The Last of Us Part II, has been delayed indefinitely, and as of right now, there’s no new release date attached to the upcoming survival/horror sequel.

On April 7, Troy Baker, the voice actor behind Joel, said on his Twitter account that there’s some big news coming soon, but as of this writing, there’s been nothing announced regarding The Last of Us Part II.

Neil Druckmann, who is the co-writer of The Last of Us Part II and the creative director at Naughty Dog, recently tweeted out that ND and Sony are still working hard to get the game out to people as soon as possible. The game’s director also shared a fan-made trailer for the upcoming sequel, which you can check out below.

Shortly after announcing the game’s delay, Sony pulled The Last of Us Part II off of the PlayStation Store and started handing out refunds to people who pre-ordered the digital version of the game. They also shared the following statement regarding The Last of Us Part II (and Iron Man VR) being pulled off of the PS Store.

“The Last of Us Part II and Iron Man VR have been delayed.” said Sony over on their PlayStation support website. “All digital pre-order consumers will automatically receive a refund. Please check your email for more details.”

Some are hoping that The Last of Us Part II will launch on its scheduled release date — May 29 — with it being a digital-only release. However, given that Sony has pulled the title off of the PlayStation Store, a digital-only release seems unlikely.

The delay had nothing to do with the game being unfinished, but rather due to logistical issues that would prevent everyone from receiving a physical copy.

Following the indefinite delay announcement, Neil Druckmann said that the game’s development is “on the one-yard line,” and that they’re just working out minor bugs and other issues. But, as for the game itself, it’s nearly done.

Now, all we can do is patiently wait for Naughty Dog and Sony to announce a new release date. As of right now, it’s unclear when they’ll make the announcement, or if it’ll be anytime soon. One thing is for sure, which is that Sony and Naughty Dog won’t reveal the game’s new release date until they’re completely sure that they can avoid yet another delay.
