From pixelated blocks to Hollywood magic, this mess of a book from Block to Big Screen hangs out with the Minecraft movie of behind-the-scenes books whose fans go wild (or at least Twitter would be buzzing). Inside this mess, however, are production and concept art’s most gnarly stories that cause jealousy among the likes of Herobrine. And get this; it arrived today—the same day on which the film hits theaters. Timing is everything, isn’t it?

So what’s the deal with this book? Well, if you’ve ever wondered how a game about punching trees turned into a full-blown cinematic adventure, let’s just say this is your backstage pass.

The official tweet from the Minecraft team teases exclusive stories and the trip from concept to epic adventure, which could mean anything from the initial script drafts to why are Steve’s arms still strangely long? The cover art alone-glossy, cinematic take on the blocky world-hints at a visual feast worth getting an eyeful of.

But of course, that won just further prove that it wasn’t a failure. If anything, much to the contrary, it managed to go by unnoticed by the spotlight of its movie. Honestly though, Minecraft fans do not shine on social media. They would rather probably build a pixelated tribute for the book than pathetically Tweet about it.

Early reviews are mixed for the movie, but that’s another kettle of fish. Some feel it is a sufficiently family adventure movie; others insist it is as shallow as a dirt block. But if the angle inside the book dives into the creative mayhem behind-the-scenes, then that would be the jackpot of books. Imagine it as that DVD extra you would care about anyway-here it is, though, in material form.

So do you get it? If you are even slightly interested in how a sandbox game turned into a Warner Bros. blockbuster (pun intended), then yes. And if you are one of those fans still mourning the cancellation of the first try to turn Minecraft into a movie, this should soothe that aching heart-or at least give you some cool art to hang beside your Creeper plushie.
