Xbox Game Pass Quests, a system which rewards you for playing games, has undergone a big nerf. These points were used to claim rewards in the Microsoft Reward Apps, but it seems like that might be harder now with the recent changes.
The changes weren’t announced, but they’re pretty obvious when you take a look at March’s reward points. From 3730 points available last month, there is only 885 available for this month.
This is what our March madness looks like.

From the Game Pass Daily Challenges, you could earn up to 900 points a month alone in February. However, with the new changes, you can only earn 300 from daily challenges. Here’s a quick look at some of the math from reddit user u/BoulderCast.
BEFORE = ~3730 per month
-
Game Pass Dailies (30 per day * 30) = 900
-
Game Pass Weeklies (~275 per week * 4.3) = 1180
-
Game Pass Monthlies (~1650 per month) = 1650
NOW = ~885 per month
-
Game Pass Dailies (10 per day * 30) = 300
-
Game Pass Weeklies (~70 per week * 4.3) = 300
-
Game Pass Monthlies (~285 per month) = 285
OTHER XBOX REWARDS OPTIONS (UNCHANGED FOR NOW) = 3585 per month
-
Xbox Weekly Hidden Treasure (100*4.3) = 430
-
Xbox Weekly (100*4.3) = 430
-
Xbox Weekly Streak Bonus (2500 per 10 weeks * 4.3) = 1075
-
Xbox Rewards App Random Tiles (5 per day * 30) = 150
-
Xbox Daily Achievement (50 per day * 30) = 1500
The changes are drastic, to say the least. There has been a response on Twitter and social media, yet Xbox is yet to announce why they’ve made the changes. It’s likely the changes have been made because the reward system was undercutting their bottom line, essentially losing them too much on their content.
Many have debated whether the monthly challenges are worth completing, especially if the values on the Redeem App stay the same (which they have, so far.) At this rate, it could take 2x or 3x longer to earn cosmetic items in a game, for example, or rent out a film. What originated as a unique idea from Microsoft seems to have backfired.
Until there is further news from Xbox, fans will be left in the dark. The most recent Tweet from the Xbox Game Pass Twitter mentions the upcoming Ori Livestream coming up on March 10th, which some fans have taken to commenting on the decreased quest reward value.
