The countdown officially begins. Konami has dropped the hype bomb announcing that we are 100 days away from METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER, and now the whole gaming world somewhat loses collective consciousness. With preorders announced, snake emojis crawling around, and fans riding a roller-coaster of certainty and doubt on what is really to come out of this remake-I really hope it’ll be fun and exciting.

For starters, yes, it’s still weird seeing Metal Gear without Kojima’s attached name. Konami is going forward with a fix-the-whole-remake of the possibly greatest entry in the series. The original MGS3: Snake Eater was a perfect balance between a Cold War spy thriller and strange Japanese game design that somehow managed to tie it all together! Can this remake capture that magic and improve the gameplay?

The reactions to the Konami tweet really run the gamut. Some folks are all in, like @Rock_Valley_1 who says he’s already preorder’d the collectors edition, while others such as @whoppermush are… well, less enthusiastic if not outright hostile with statements like “cant wait to pirate this.” Ouch. Then @nbac85 comments on regional differences in collector’s editions and how Europeans feel shortchanged.

The juiciest of debates concerns the development of the game itself. @Elwood540 makes a good point about the notoriously small jungle maps of the original game by today’s standards-if this is truly a 1:1 remake, will those cramped levels not feel rather dated? In response, @ThatN00BsFriend states that calling this merely a remaster is almost insulting given how much work has been put into creating everything from scratch in Unreal Engine. Both are more than a little right, I think.

Konami’s very marketing strategy finds itself in question. Lots of replies like the ones from @m_razzle and @AQUELE_Maverick are clamoring for gameplay footage rather than more hype-tweeting. It’s been silent since the reveal. Quite the choice, indeed. @ItsBildo glues on that it does not even matter any longer anyway, as the collector’s edition has long sold out, and no one really knows what the game plays like in 2024.

The discussion about pricing heats up with @DashJoestar96_ defending the $70 price for the next-gen edition while others are holding that it’s too much for a remake. Meanwhile, there’s @RoyLParker harboring a cynical yet probably realistic view that “The profits are going to the Konami executives for their 3rd homes.” Now, what a story.

Least to say, this franchise can stir a lot of passion with all that said. @JanVac91 expresses jealousy for the newcomers who get to experience Snake Eater for the first time alongside other hefties like brouhaha over Doom. @Canard_Sauvage is already calling for remakes of the original MSX Metal Gear games; @NotIrishGun? Well, they’re along just for some propaganda memes-would not blame them.

Then there are the big queries that lurk: How much will really be changed besides viscerals? Does that famous ladder scene still hit? Are we still on for weird s*** like Fear’s diarrhea mechanics? Konami only has 100 days to answer some of these questions before November actually arrives. Anyways, the jungle awaits-were we ever ready in the first place? Time for cardboard box practice, again!
