Something was said on August 28 about the touch-and-go survival mechanics making their way into the title of Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. The official Metal Gear Twitter account had a lot to say about foraging for food and being treated for injuries as major gameplay mechanics. Snake has to eat, after all. Who would have imagined that was coming?
The emoji-filled tweet (🍄 🌿 🥭, throw in some more) offered a glimpse into what players should be looking forward to. The survival part is a little more than sneaking past guards-well, scavenging for food and health management are probably involved, and definitely some interesting jungle delicacies for eating. What does it say about “tactical espionage” when Snake is secretly munching on mystery mushrooms while crouched in a bush?
It’s entirely fresh, not a remaster. Rebuilt from the ground up with Unreal Engine 5. And from what showed in the trailer, the jungle has never looked so good. The luscious foliage, the dynamic lighting, and the glancing view of Snake’s classical camouflage candidly cast in a glow simple for next-gen appreciation. Lastly, survival mechanics. Konami is going big time into the “living-off-the-land” vibe, which we think is fitting to the original game’s setting. Snake Eater was all about survival-everybody’s trying to survive a bit more now.
The fans have waited for so long since the initial teaser for an August release. There are no delays or ambiguous “coming soon” dates-this is a solid date. Rare these days, fighting games are pushed back more than a procrastinating student piles assignments away. Somehow, Konami is going to land this for now.
But what is really attracting the makers’ interest? How intense is the survival system in actuality? Is there any risk of Snake getting food poisoning from bad fruit? Will you get to make homemade bandages? No definite answers are given in the tweet, but #MGSDelta has been exploding with theories. Some fans are super hyped, while others are waiting for proof to come in the form of ignoring the “hunger meters” idea in their Metal Gear. Big risk anyhow-a risk that might give the game a whole new identity or leave players begging for a patch that lets you skip eating.
Pre-orders should be coming really soon (that link in the tweet is not just for show), and collectors editions are for sure to be on the cards. Maybe one with a replica of Snake’s bandana. Or some goofy plastic mango. Seriously, at this point, nothing will surprise us.
So, go ahead, mark your calendars, clear your schedules, and maybe get into jungle survival. What a ride this will be come August 28! At the very least, we’ll finally answer how DOES it taste?
