Nixxes Software has rolled out an update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC that carries some weighty changes, the foremost being native support for NVIDIA DLSS 4. So, the fellas on these ultramodern rigs can enjoy smoother framerates and crisper visuals in support of their GPU prowess. There are other stability improvements as well, coming from player inputs, because, really, who wants to crash mid-way through an epic swing across Manhattan?

Now, with all that in theory, one would think the update would be very welcome but, the reception has been anything but. Those enthusiastic are very few, in fact, one Luis R states, “a god-send for PC ports” and begs for a hint of what they may be doing next. At the other end of the spectrum are those really not trying to tone down their displeasure. ProperCharva was all the way uncensored: “The game still runs like shit, sort it out.” Badandy wanted it to go on sale because a two-year-old console port shouldn’t still be going for $60.

The “I’ve had it” crowd grew bigger from there. Daboss208 said, “Just stop updating the game it’s f***ing dead.” That one stung. But then NickTraq went in a completely different direction with a Portuguese rant that would approximate to ‘This woke crap, go f*** yourself.’ So not everything said or discussed here is sunshine and rainbows.

Meanwhile, some fans are looking past the update and talking content. Karan straight-up asked Insomniac when the Venom spin-off is happening, and Scott Jacobs wanted to know if there is DLC in the pipeline. And then the usual grumble about PlayStation exclusives hitting PC begins. Grant (thegmarsterPS5) went all out claiming it is “killing PlayStation” and handed the PC players munitions for the argument that consoles are dying. Dramatic? Slightly so, but you cannot deny that the passion is real.

Performance hiccups notwithstanding, changes represent a grand boon for Spidey 2 on computer. The DLSS 4 update is operating miracles for those with the hardware to support it, and stability fixes are just fine on any day. But against those who are thankful, frustrated, and so angry they could spit, the expression presents itself: Insomniac alongside Nixxes still have some swinging left to go before satisfying everyone in the crowd.

So, if any of you have been holding out to return to Spider-Man 2, now is probably a good time, at least if you can actually run it. If not? Well, then maybe wait for that sale badandy has been begging for. Or just play the PS2 version again, as Mr. ShroudedSlayer so generously suggested. Yes, that’s an option, too.

Either way, this one is not moving anywhere anytime soon.
