Marvel Rivals dropped their announcement for the upcoming patch that would hit servers at 2 AM PST on July 3, 2025. The patch is teasing some tweaks and fixes-but most importantly, all without any server downtime. Where the devs see a smooth update, the playerbase has dug on their heels into demanding and grumbling, all while chanting, Where’s the Black Panther nerf?!
First things first: please point them to the patch notes (links should be put in a tweet!). The update won’t forcibly kick you out of any ongoing game, won’t it? Well, if Star-Lord screams out in there, that’s a win? For the detriment of Marvel Rivals! Now comes the flood of comments being a myriad between hail, dismay, and skin refund requests.
Black Panther remains the extrovert among the complaints. KennySmash_ said, “NERF BLACK PANTHER FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HE RUINED ALL THE FUN IN ALL MY GAMES.” And he is not alone. There are those who say he’s practically invincible, scaling the walls, healing fast, tiny hitbox, and hard to counter. Some even say if Scarlet Witch can’t hit him, let’s just go ahead and change him already.
But the matchmaking is also pretty screwed up. Angel UM simply lashed: “Either fix competitive matchmaking, or I’m leaving—it’s terrible.” Many join in demanding skill-based matchmaking over what they refer to as a system to purposely manipulate win/loss streaks.
Cross-progression is another sore point. Several players, including Lykos45 and zScxry, are again clamoring for a time when they will be able to sync progress across platforms. The devs remain mum for now, but patience is running thin.
Oh, yeah, and Jeff the Land Shark is still a hot topic. Some consider the buff to his water beam a good thing (faster ultimate charge!), yet others like _JoeJohnson_ are enraged: “Flyers can fly with no cooldown, but the shark can’t swim without one. Make it make sense.” The argument heated up so intensely that one called for Jeff’s emote to be removed for being “very hateful.” (No further context was given. Just vibes.)
Nic_Who is meanwhile rushing through the battle passes like they were his second job: “Buff Chrono Tokens Please! Takes FOREVER to GRIND battlepasses!” And then the real question comes from VegitodickSuckr: “When is the twerk emote coming for Emma Frost?” Priorities, people.
Updates, sure. But the community wishlist is like so much longer:
– Nerf Black Panther (please, for the love of vibranium).
– Fix competitive matchmaking.
– Cross-progression (like, yesterday).
– Why Winter Soldier again dodged nerfs.
– Heal the healers.
– Uh, yeah, that twerk emote for Emma Frost?
So, this patch will rather release on July 3. But, as the replies show, the changes would not be enough to stop the discontent of the Marvel Rivals players.
