Few are perhaps more passionate about this topic than the fan who set off a social-media explosion with the tweet “We really need more proper villains in this game #MarvelRivals,” a conversation point centering on the lack of any good villains for the superhero brawler, which, honestly, is a fair point.
Interspersed with musings on the social media landscape of whether the image showed some future villain ideas, it actually probably didn’t drop into the great void. While the developers of Marvel Rivals haven’t uttered a word yet (Come on, Marvel Rivals community, where’s the banter?), the italicized opinion on that tweet has been echoed loudly across forums and social media. The players want more from this cool action hero versus hero brawl: A classic villainous appearance thrown into the mix as a wild card.
More pertinent is, what in heaven’s name is a superhero game without the villains? Spider-Man without the Green Goblin? The Avengers sans Thanos? It’d be pretty much like cereal without the milk- doable but utterly senseless. There was lots of room for Marvel Rivals to delve deep into the Marvel rogues gallery, and at this point, it feels like the baddies are already being held back.
Like any good villain, Doctor Doom and Magneto would be there, setting the stakes higher in their fights alongside lesser-known but no less feared foes like M.O.D.O.K. Villains haven’t featured so far in a game clearly named for hero clusters, so the whole ordeal has been fun, but once a proper villain roster enters the game, then it will be truly legendary.
And honestly, who doesn’t want to see these classic supervillains roll in? They add drama, unpredictability, and that sweet tension that lays claim to the well-earned victories. If there is any chance for Marvel Rivals to be set apart in the overpopulated heroes’ game industry, it sure has to hand over control-or fear-to a whole bunch of villains to the players.
Thus, Marble Rivals would seem to be listening (we know they are), therefore putting the fans up with a huge notice “More Villains, Please.” What happens next is with you. Will we see an update that’s going bad in the near future? The future will tell, but one thing is for sure-there is a colossal demand that we know.
Until then, players will be FIGhT-ing each other in hope the next giant update will bring in some serious chaos into the fight. What in fact is a hero without a villain to punch?
