Fortnite players, get ready: tonight’s item shop is full-fledged comic book crossover show. Marvel and DC are wreaking havoc with a lineup that manages to hype, confuse, and in some cases, frustrate the gamers with utter despair. Mary Jane and Spider-Man from Marvel, and Harley Quinn and Batman from DC are featured in the item shop alongside a Battle Ready bundle with seven items to put icing on the cake. However, the reactions are utter mayhem.
First off, there is the list itself. From the Marvel side, there are Mary Jane (not the MCU Mary Jane, a few players were quick to point out) and Spider-Man Zero. The latter caused much confusion since, again, players originally expected it to be Tom Holland No Way Home Spider-Man and instead got this Spider-Man Zero-a version for which…let’s just say the replies were not nice. One said, “That fuckass Spider-Man zero,” and honestly, that’s just how it is.
Over on the DC side of operations, Harley Quinn and Batman make a return, with the Dark Knight at last being able to be elected by some players. But there is drama on this front as well. Some were expecting comic-book Catwoman, who, alas, is nowhere to be seen. The disappointment is real, folks.
By the way, the replies are quite golden. One player jokingly mentioned that after seeing the shop, they “need a financial advisor,” and I concur. Then we had the outrage surrounding recycled skins, with one player screaming, “How many fucking times are we going to get these skins?” And then there’s that unfortunate soul who bought V-Bucks, assuming it was for the No Way Home Spider-Man, finally redeemed it, and got slapped in the face with Spider-Man Zero instead. It’s a rough world.
There is, however, a side to this conversation that is not negative—some are glad-a player who has been wanting to nab Batman can now do so. Meanwhile, others perpetually plead for other collabs, like Stranger Things or RoboCop (where is RoboCop?). And shouts go out from the poor soul, questioning the return of account merging—an appeal, Epic.
The biggest takeaway? The Fortnite item shop is a rollercoaster, if ever there were one. One minute you are hyped; the next minute you are rage-tweeting about a Spider-Man that isn’t even the one you wanted. But hey, that’s the magic of a live-service game; one never knows what to expect-or sometimes, it is that “fuckass Spider-Man zero.”
