At least, after this happens in Mario Kart 8 and the clip makes its rounds across the Internet, that is how one would describe a player being outright murdered by the game’s chaotic RNG. This case involves crazy back-to-back-three-hit combos that would have sent even the most hardened racer throwing their controllers into the wall.
The video posted initially by Reddit user u/ITHE_BIG_BOI begins with a pretty normal start, with the player cruising next to the main screen, and then suddenly-BAM! The ultimate Red Shell! And before one could even start wondering how to recover from this, the unholy Blue Shell drops from the sky…could it get any worse? Well, to top the already atrocious sequence of events, a rogue Banana Peel in slow motion comes to gently nudge ’em off the course. One could begin wondering if the game itself holds a grudge against him.
The just-as-horrified-and amused-by-the-whole-scenario gamers in the comments put it in more colorful terms. @HighKeyApe said, “That wasn’t a race, that was a full-blown sabotage.” “Final lap. Finish line in sight. Then boom—blue shell from the heavens,” tweeted @hustlermahi, while @QueenEmiTV chimed in: “LOL seeing him just slowly slide off at the end is just… MWAH, perfect.”
And there was a chunk of people who refused to pity anyone. Some wondered why we are talking about Mario Kart 8 in 2025. “@yamotweets asked, We’re posting Mario Kart 8 in 2025?” while “@0_0Death said we can stop getting news on this game? Like there is a sequel out.” Fair point, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is alive and well, and moments like these are what keep her there. The unpredictability, the dread-filled humiliation poured on trays of shells and bananas…dare I say, that stuff never grows old.
