It’s about to get a little bit interesting with Hero Classes introduced in LEGO Fortnite, and gamers are already losing their minds at the reveal of the very first class-SHADOW CALLER! And this is just the beginning: two more classes shall be released with Expeditions, granting players more avenues to bask in the blocky chaos of a battle royale.
So, what are Hero Classes? Essentially, you get to swap between them during gameplay, leveling them up as you go along; they are a hybrid of RPG statistics present and turned upside down in LEGO Fortnite’s survival sandbox. Shadow Caller is the first; if anything can be gleaned from that name, there might be some dark, sneaky abilities-maybe even summon a few minions? There is already lots of speculation amongst the players, some of which pray for a wizard class (shoutouts to @ibeelung for that wishlist).
There are a lot of people still split about this. The replies to that tweet are a monolithic mecha-mix of hype and skepticism. A person along the lines of @LiranPlayz has already predicted this will be abandoned faster than a default skin is in a sweat lobby: “Cnt wait for this to never get updates after release š„š„š„.” Ouch. Different side: @TheFengMin said, “Wait this can be fun as hell if you do it right im so excited.”
And then the Odyssey crowd. A huge crowd of patrons is just raising its eyebrows on this addition, foreseeing LEGO Fortniteās other modes (namely Odyssey) getting left behind soon. @ZadyVerse said straight, “Respectfully I hope you guys donāt forget to pour into Odyssey. Itās the best Lego mode.” Meanwhile, @blucorx throws shade: “Another lego addition instead of an odyssey update.”
Comparisons are flying. Other gamers hope this plays like Diablo or Minecraft Dungeons (@milkygato said literally, “if this is like diablo or minecraft dungeons i WILL be there”). Then there are those just praying it won’t turn out to be a tedious grindfest; @CHEWIE_______ joked, “A Tedious Grindfest that removes all the Fun and creativity A Lego game should have š¤·š¤£.”
And here are the classics: Fix the lag (@Daniel16975450), bring back the lost loot (@Ricky41411163), and, for some strange reason, ensure Captain Rex returns too (@Is3po13921). Typical Fortnite crowd.
One thing’s for sure, LEGO Fortnite isn’t going to slow down anytime soon. Whether Hero Classes are going to be a hit or just get left behind depends on how Epic sustains it; but, with Expeditions coming shortly and players already theorizing builds, this could very well be the much-needed shake-up of the mode or another brewing pot for nauseating complaints. So stay tuned for either one.
Now who’s down to main Shadow Caller and blatantly pretend it just means LEGO for join-the-ranks-of-Battle-Pass-skins?
