DOOM fans have gone crazy with the latest news from DOOM: The Dark Ages, and creative director Hugo Martin at id Software has done nothing but fan the flames further with his response to one of the most savage lines in the game. The trailer had gone live with a voiceover that sent tingles down spines: “All the power of Hell cowering before one man.” Oh yeah, the line is completely cold.
Being the legend he is, Hugo could only react, so retweeted one regarding the “cold AF” line and another one saying, “based af” in relation to the game. Not one more word is needed – pure and unfiltered from a guy who knows demon slaying like nobody else.
Now let’s break it down as to why it hits so hard. That is not just cool; that is a declaration of war. The Doom Slayer is not just going into battle with Hell, he is terrifying Hell. That is next-level badass. And Hugo just gave his seal on it, so you can be sure this game will bring it with every shotgun blast and chainsaw rev.
The medieval doomguy atmosphere is practically dripping from the trailer, with brutal melee combat, dark fantasy aesthetics, and, of course, over-the-top violence-the kind that makes DOOM… well, uh, DOOM.
Preposterously, fans are already pronouncing this new entry a “much-awaited return to that savage-spirited domain,” and with Hugo openly and clearly seeming to endorse that praise, the beautiful noise being made is most definitely warranted.
But this is not DOOM: The Dark Ages below burning its weighty caps gloriously on the line for differentiating itself from everything else.
We are now going to new weapons, new demons, and, probably, new ways of ripping AND tearing with a darker so-it’s-more-fun medieval hellscape kind of setting. If this means anything, the story is going to hit harder than a pointblank super shotgun.
Yet to reply to Hugo’s tweet, but you know the DOOM community is churning out storming memes, theories, and enough hype to power a BFG. Silence is peculiar-a stillness before a storm of slaughtering demons.
So by that logic, The Dark Ages will just be another slaughtering masterpiece. Hugo’s stamp of approval? Just a cherry on that bloody sundae. So gear up again, for Hell will know fear once more.
