Alright, wizards and witches: the wand should be raised and some magic thrown onto this announcement. While we were still gaping on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo was preparing a care package that included an upgraded port of the magical RPG onto Switch 2, set for release on June 5. Did you get that? Enhanced sights and a faster load time, with—mouse support. Shazimmer, that kind of precise control surely mattered, even in a world of wizardry.
So what happened? Hogwarts Legacy was already a hit, but, between you and me, the Switch version had some…let’s call them performance quirks. Level of jank that would translate to “Is that a Bludger or just a pixelated blob?” Titles of higher level of shame. Currently? And good things are promising to be a thing beautiful. And if you have been among those few who never really jumped into the game (where have you been, hiding under that rock on the Forbidden Forest?), then here is that perfect excuse to go in.
And that is the juicy part—Internet antics. Some are utterly excited. To the tenor of, “I already own it on PS5 but I’m still buying it again for Switch 2” (shoutout to @RealNativeEyes). Then others… well, not so much. Usual suspects rage on: will the upgrades be free? Should they even exist? One guy starts warning on Twitter: Nintendo may brick your Switch… all because of the new EULA. Dramatic? Possibly. Paranoid? Certainly. But hey, it’s the internet.
And then we have that rivalry nobody ever asked for: Switch versus Steam Deck. @Superaustin152 and @monoxzide are trading barbs like it was a duel in the Great Hall. One claims, “Switch has exclusives you can’t get anywhere else” (fair enough); response by @monoxzide: “LOL, enjoy your 30 fps.” Meanwhile, @calliboy904 is challenging everyone to pit the Steam version against the Switch in a graphical gladiator showdown.
Then there are the haters: @hotheyylien declared it the trash game (rude); @ganon20041 replied, “Um, the game exists on other platforms.” Well, duh. But people really want this one on Switch. Portable Hogwarts? That’s easy. Even @DredgenShinobi, who’s already 100% done on Steam, is tempted to double dip.
Now, what does this imply? For this better Switch experience, June 5 is The Day. Pre-orders are live, the upgrades look legit, and let’s be honest, you really want some magic on the go. Don’t read much into that EULA if you’re already scared of the theoretical bricking.
Oh, and by the way: no, this is not a free upgrade for anyone currently holding it. Sorry, @AlJR86. But hey, it’s not a $70 full price re-release either. Let’s take what little comfort we can from that. Now, I will get working on my Wingardium Leviosa before June. Accio pre-order button!
