Halo Infinite released a really huge new update for its Big Team Battle fans. And what a bang the update has produced; it is going to mess up really nicely across the battlefield. 343 Industries noted that Extraction and Assault objectives have been added to the BTB playlist, further raising the bar for these fans of mass warfare. Well, even if the replies section seems a little quiet at the moment, such hype has already developed because of it being an update under Operation Forerunner.
So, what’s new? Extraction requires teams to capture locations and hold them from opposing forces while Assault brings back pure, adrenaline-inducing bomb planting. As much as you coordinate at some points, a glorious chaos tends to happen when you have randoms ignoring the objective: The trailer linked to the tweet showcases some pretty frantic firefights at their best with very huge maps, with Warthogs flipping and Spartans flying through the air by the throws of grenade. Yes, pretty much that classic Halo feeling.
It must be really crazy because these things usually pour-on the good-and bad-kind hype through the roof. Everyone’s just too busy playing to tweet? Or, is it that crassness means 343 killed it this time around? Historically, BTB has had its share of complaints(Hey, remember the spawn system?), but it seems as though this rejuvenates itself based on direct player feedback.
Extraction seems to be taking an interesting twist on King of the Hill-more teamwork is expected in holding the zone, defending it, praying that your teammates do not all go off on a side mission to scout out sniper kills. Assault, on the other hand, reminds us of the older Halo modes, where planting the bomb is akin to defusing a nuke in an action movie-stressfully entertaining.
Still doesn’t say whether these modes will become permanent or just rotate, but 343 has been promoting playlist changes for freshness. If this works, it might buy time while awaiting something big to drop-for example, that elusive Forge mode.
But very much at present: rattle the sandbox; give players endlessly fresh new ways to play it and dull the “grind” from feeling stale. And if it’s a quiet community? Maybe that’s the best review of all-too busy fragging to complain.
So grab your BR, guild everything, and don’t rage when someone steals your Scorpion. Operation Forerunner is here, and it’s packed.
Plus, grenade near bomb site, just saying.
