In Rockstar’s western opus Red Dead Redemption 2, you play as Arthur Morgan, one of the few moral compasses in Dutch van der Linde’s gang of bandits. Make no mistake, though, as Arthur himself would attest, he’s not a good man. Far from it. Over the course of the game, Arthur kills, robs, kidnaps, and kills some more.

What if the life of crime just isn’t your cup of tea? It would be a shame to miss out on this masterpiece, but maybe you won’t have to after all. The makers of the LSPD: First Response mod, the Grand Theft Auto V mod that put you in the shoes of the Los Santos Police Department, are here to do the very same thing with Red Dead Redemption 2.

RDRFR, which one can only assume stands for Red Dead Redemption: First Response, is currently in the works with a to-be-determined release date, but according to a post on their website, their focus is currently on getting out an early version as quickly as possible. Community feedback is no doubt a large part of the process, so the faster they can get players playing their mod, the faster they can crowdsource some quality assurance and gather suggestions and comments.

For those unfamiliar with the Grand Theft Auto V mod, this is so much more than just a re-skin that puts you in a police uniform. The First Responders mod for GTAV is a massive overhaul that fundamentally changes the gameplay and it looks like the Red Dead Redemption mod isn’t going to be any different in terms of scope.

It will be very different in terms of content, however, because policing the wild west is a heck of a lot different than policing a modern-day metropolis. One of the biggest changes is going to be the absolute lack of automobiles since a large part of the job of fighting crime in Los Santos involves high-speed chases with escaping perpetrators.

There aren’t really any details at this point, but the modders did say that they’d like to have a version out in the coming weeks. I’d imagine the biggest hurdle players will face will be getting Red Dead Redemption 2 to work in the first place considering the mountains of issues the PC port has had since launch.

Being a mod, this is all of course completely free, so it might be a good time to grab the LSPDFR mod and get something of an idea of what to expect while you kill time waiting for Red Dead Redemption: First Response.
