This wisecracker lizard who normally would pop with culture references has returned to PlayStation and has literally been causing ruckus among cannier gamers in the area. The update actually appeared on PlayStation’s very own Twitter account, with responses being somewhat nostalgic and yet chaotic at the same time.
But then what’s so great about Gex? Gex-Enter the Gecko featured, back in the late ’90s, a rather sarcastic lizard on some 2D platformer games-for-the-media-wise, an incarnation for all those who did not have a PlayStation or a 3DO to play Gex on-and yes, of course, that’s another console! Having been the first in the series, it was more of a traditional 2D side-scrolling platformer, whereas the remaining games, Gex-Enter the Gecko and Deep cover Gecko, went full 3D, fleshed out aged glitzy costumes, and pretty much cackled on every possible pun. Think James Bond minus the foppish little lizard attitude. “But the Twitter post from PlayStation was nothing but this simple statement: “Gex who’s back 🦎,” with a link to the trilogy. A tantrum was thrown worldwide; ranging from “Classic game 🔥” to “OMFG it’s HIM,” showing that, even down the years, Gex still held that star power.”
Some players, like Oversoul Gaming, rushed to defend their childhood, saying, “This Trilogy is my childhood, and I did want it.” Others just wanted to see it and relive all that nostalgia; one user said, “It’s tail time,” classic.
Others, on the contrary, would disagree. One user named Dean, however, stated, “Lol who plays midstation anymore… Switch 2 has way better games.” Ouch. Very hurtful, but not really everyone’s cup of tea to play Gex if you haven’t grown up in those days of weird, mascot-based platformers.
More pleas came in: “Remake please. Crash Bandicoot treatment,” urged one user, while another responded, “Give Digimon World 3 with trophy support on PS5 you bastards!” Fair enough, but let’s focus on the lizard, yeah?
Now, some of the best Gex discussions began. Some reminisced with fond memories indeed from their N64 days; others swore on the PS1 originals, and a few confused people replied, “That’s not Gex,” and it is, for the record.
Next came a series of crazily hilarious retorts. One user linked Gex with Ethereum, saying the game would “make you forget all about your Ethereum worries.” Why not? Another proclaimed a theory that old games are coming back because a new handheld was going to drop soon. Conspiracy theories and gaming nostalgia—name a better duo.

Whether the whole weird humor, platforming, and outright ridiculousness of a secret agent gecko were your thing, this one set of fingers is nodding from way back. And late at night, there’s a thought shoved into remembering how weird the times used to be-a pretty cool realization, actually.
Gex Trilogy is out for PlayStation if you want to let the creeping nostalgia take over or if you just want to know what the entire fuss thing is all about.
