Very well, here Genshin fans go again; hang on tight because HoYoverse has just dropped another character teaser making waves for the wonderful reveal of the mysterious vetvet of the Flower-Feather Clan, Ifa. The official tweet just introduces with all the coolness that borders on suspiciousness: “Sure thing, dude. Trust me.” So that’s the energy we’re dealing with here.
Well, he certainly does seem to be quite the catch. According to the lore, Ifa is just the kind of guy that has some sort of magical touch when it comes to working with saurians-those great big rough-and-tumble lizards that never seem to sit still for anyone. Apparently, though, they’re just angels when Ifa’s around. After treatment, they eat, sleep, and basically cease or cut down on all mischief. Sound like a miracle worker, no? Maybe he just has a secret stash of junk-food lizards. Still, whatever it is, it’s found interesting by us.
While the official introduction of the character sheds ever more light into Ifa’s lore, the skill showcase video (yep, there is a video) hints toward what he can actually do in combat. Honestly, Genshin Impact never really messes up when it comes to character designs. Ifa possesses that rugged feel of a chill healer who would patch you up after a bar fight and then take you out for drinks.
Now this is the real question: What would be his gameplay? It actually does match to say that if smooth-talk is up to his rep as a saurian tamer, then we could possibly be looking at the type of support every player would just need. If he does have some healing nature or any crowd-control passive soothing the enemies aiming for him, then that would definitely be something. Or – huge plot twist – what if Ifa could summon saurians to fight for him? Okay, perhaps that was wishful thinking, but a traveler can dream.
This was all part of the hype walk for Genshin Impact’s Version 5.6. If ever there had to be something said about HoYoverse, it would be that it knows how to keep us on our toes. New regions, new story quests, and then a new guy like Ifa. Really, they are just throwing crumbs at us and are glad to have us chow them.
So, has Ifa really earned all that hype? Well, only time will tell and actually, only the advent of his banner release will bring the ultimate verdict on it. As of now, one’s only daydreaming an absolute sick team comp of Ifa, Yaoyao, and Tighnari all vibing in a wilderness, probably healing and taming some creatures, like one anime nature documentary.
