A Genshin Impact character reveal took place with great excitement only some days back-now with a feeble faction of the audience expressing affection toward the character and some throwing direct hate. Meet Dahlia, the never-to-be-forgotten “Herald of Barbatos,” Hydro Vision brandishing some medieval-bard-style name. However, straighttalk: his whole thing is about solving disputes by dragging people to taverns for drinking contests. You read me right.
Jean, the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius himself, an always-firm incarnation, cannot stand it. She went ahead and tweeted officially complaining: “To resolve disputes between citizens, laws both fair and just must be laid out. I’m afraid we can’t approve of Dahlia… dragging disagreeing parties to the tavern to settle affairs via drinking contests.” Girl, let the man live-maybe Mondstadt needs a little chaos.
However, the fandom is divided. Some are vibing hard and shout, “FINALLY MY LOVELY BABY IS HERE DAHLIA COME HOME I NEED YOU” (shoutout to dokjamystar for the passion). Others–RCanariolol bluntly said, “This looks like shit lmao,” while Shamsy_UT went on to describe his outfit as, “Another twink with fucking hideous shorts.” Ouch.
There is also the angry 4-star controversy. Despite being the Herald of Barbatos (which sounds important), Dahlia is stuck at 4-star rarity. CinderellaVoid somehow perfectly captures said rage in Spanish: “Los odio… ¿Por qué no lo hicieron 5 estrellas? Estoy cansada.” (Translation: “I hate you… Why didn’t you make him a 5-star? I’m tired.”) In the meantime, txtzenie criticized Hoyoverse’s decision for the character ranking: “The herald of Barbatos is a 4 when a random female character who is not even relevant to the story is a 5 surprise surprise 🙄.”
And we have yet to get into the kit complaints. SirHuyner went: “Why you giving him the worst kit in the game come on Hoyo 😭 Tf was the hype for??” Whereas SipSipStefen threatened, “IF YALL DONT FIX HIS KIT AND BUFF HIM I SWEAR.” Passion, passion, passion.
Still, if maddeningly unfair to say so, not everyone is mad. Some fans are chilling hard. jadeitejelly15 screamed, “HE’S SO PRETTY!!!!” And Lisha_Ren declared, “LISHA LOVES DAHLIA 💕🐦🌸❤❤❤❤❤❤.” So…mixed bag.
Then there’s that random kid reference. SnakeSorcerer came back at Jean: “I mean…it sounds a lot better than locking a kid in solitary, Jean…” Wait, what kid? Who’s in solitary? Genshin lore is wild.
Dahlia’s reveal, in any case, is one thing: Genshin fans will never agree on anything. Love or hate him, he’s here, he’s chaotic, and he’s going to cost you a pretty penny. So…Who are you rolling for?
(Also, on a slightly separate note. The “daily dahlia account” was apparently asleep during the reveal. underwetdream ominously pointed them out with: “that daily dahlia account always sleeping at moment like this.” Priorities, people.)
