G2 Esports have just delivered some explosive announcements about their LEC Summer Split lineups. It is having players losing their minds amid the unpredictable turns of events. After spells at MSI and EWC, the org decided to stir the pot and pull off the unforeseen top-jungle swap with Broken Blade in the jungle with SkewMond top for Week 1. You heard that right. The top-jungle role swap. Because, why not?
It was posted in multiple languages; Spanish and Japanese included-for G2 has a penchant for chaos-saying that this approach is experimental and aims to develop a more multi-dimensional style of team layout with shared knowledge of all roles. Broken Blade has been grinding jungle SoloQueue with promising results, scrim-data backing this up. A long-term success play? Or just G2 being G2? Time will tell.
And with the announcement came the quick-witted and fast community reaction-the players are calling it “the most delayed April Fools’ joke ever;” some others are hyping BBxCaps synergy, and one fan even went: “Guess who’s their mom’s biggest disappointment?” (ouch). Then, all in French and Spanish, megaphones arose amidst confusion and full-blown enthusiasm-per usual for the G2 fanbase.
Nonetheless, there is no certainty for many of these critics, who then go on to argue that Broken Blade and Hans Sama do not provide consistent performance on stage, so what is to say these swaps will do anything good? Then there are those who just arrive laughing at the idea of LEC teams “fixing their issues” by swapping roles instead of actually fixing issues. Classic.
And the best part, they do not even play in the first week. So, therefore, it can very well be that the whole announcement is just one massive elaborate troll. Wouldn’t put it past them. Madness strolls in soon anyhow, in which case, one can bank that the players will be keenly watching, wondering if this shot in the dark lands or falls harder than a Yuumi trying to 1v1 a Darius.
Classic G2 style: utter silence dropped on the announcement. Teamwork or disaster? We will find out through the ensuing LEC Summer Split. But one thing is common knowledge: G2 Series= Tension. So, who all are ready to witness Broken Blade smite-steal Baron as a jungler? We certainly are.
