Epic Games will on November 8th, once again showcase a classic – Butterfly Event- from the original version of Fortnite, which has become one of the most iconic events in the game. As a result, players are already going crazy in anticipation of the reality-bending destruction that will come to the island. The announcement was made with the same classic butterfly imagery that everyone is used to, and it suggested “tiny wings that create huge ripples in the wake of reality” when players come into OG before 2 PM ET on November 8.

Sorry, what was I talking about? Right – the butterfly event! This is the dimensional madness that again surprised everyone and was hugely underrated. The description of wings making ripples throughout reality? This is basically the butterfly effect happening, and just like this very soon the players pointed it out in the replies. JoshyRB directly asked, “The butterfly effect?” while Smokey just dropped “Butterfly effect” as if it were common knowledge. And they are right!

The overall reaction from the community has been amazing. Shot-Marco, who was the first to mention the event, tweeted, “REVIN WE ARE COMING” right away, which resulted in everyone speculating about who the characters might be. Then he tweeted again saying, “Revin gonna be chilling there,” which raised even more questions about who might be at the event of this great upheaval in the world.

Some players are just thrilled to be able to witness the event this time around. TeleSkell tweeted, “Oh good! I can finally see this one. I missed it the first time,” which is very relatable honestly as nearly every player has, at one point or another, missed out on a big Fortnite event. On the flip side, Mewtwo150 only cared about the time, saying, “Finally, a proper time for an event!” which is, fair enough, as some events are held at like 3 AM for certain time zones.

However, not everybody thinks it will be an amazing experience. Aimlock Adam has already labeled the event as boring even before it took place, using his Twitter account to express, “the event’s gonna be lame 😒 👎”, which, come on man, you have not even seen it yet? Meanwhile, ProfAmbros has already started grieving over the butterfly coming back to the mundane world with “Aaaaand now the butterfly is back to normal 😭,” which is such a classic Fortnite player mood – impatiently waiting for the end of the fun.

Theories have already started to spin around with a lot of replies speculating. Freerolo765 has been dropping some theory nuggets implying that chapter seven would be based on Hollywood and linked to the Seven’s original lives before they, well, became the Seven. Also, they were suggesting that The Imagined and The Order were the unsuccessful versions of “the sisters,” which is quite a complicated Avengers-style backstory but hey, that is Fortnite lore for you!

What is most impressive, though, is how divided the reactions are – there are some players like Five who cannot keep their excitement in check saying “Can’t wait, seriously! SO EXCITING” while others have already designated themselves to the complaint department. To this, on top of that… there is the entire… other drama in the replies that is completely unrelated to Fortnite? Like people arguing about their weight and some personal matters? Classic Twitter moment right there.

The notion of the butterfly as a means of rippling through the fabric of reality is reminiscent of the time when Fortnite was experimenting significantly with their in-game events. At first, all one could do was watch the cube move and the black hole gobble everything? This butterfly event was one of the precursors warning signals that the company was serious about its live events.

A large cohort of players is already considering hosting viewing parties, with stephqnos proclaiming “WE WILL BE THERE” and Oasis posting “LET ME IN” accompanied by a GIF of someone desperately attempting to get into a place. There is definitely excitement and, honestly, it should be so. These OG events combined with modern event tech hitting the original map? That’s fabulously crazy.

The timing could not have been more perfect – players from all different time zones have equal opportunities to see the action if they log in before 2 PM ET. No more rising at 4 in the morning, setting alarms or trying to convince your boss that you indeed need a “Fortnite event break” during work hours.

To make matters worse, it’s not just a simple cosmetic update or a weapon but rather the full-blown reality-changing event stuff that directly impacts the game world itself. The event will be characterized by “dimension-warping effects,” which suggests that some striking visual changes or even maybe temporary gameplay alterations while the butterfly is having fun could be the case.

The community has long been asking for more of those classic Fortnite events, and bringing back the OG experience on PlayStation and Xbox is a welcome move.
