All roads lead to the new expansion, titled “Expeditions,” dropping for LEGO Fortnite‘s freaks on June 18! A leak from HYPEX sparked fury among the community—and honestly? No one can blame them. LEGO Fortnite has been the rage since it opened up in December 2023. At one point of peak activity, it pulled in half of Fortnite‘s concurrent players. So, I guess it’s safe to say the hype train for this new mode is back on rails.

So after hearing the whispers, what really goes on inside Expeditions? For the moment, things are pretty much fuzzy; the name alone hints at some system of adventure gameplay. A dungeon crawler, perhaps, like Minecraft Dungeons, one user pondered? Or rather, a full-fledged explorations mode replete with quests and loot? Any which way, it’s a cementing factor for the LEGO vibe within Fortnite, keeping it really in the realm of Fortnite. The furnace will be burning with surprises courtesy of Epic.

As usual, reactions from the players split between yes and no: A few see this as essential to the game. Like Danny, who said, “I tell you, my kids are going to love it.” However, others? Meh… Some user named viuyxfn went off about Zero Build being “for bots” with an avalanche of vomit emojis. Classic Fortnite dialogue, really. In any case, you can never please everyone in a game with lots of modes and play styles, just like Fortnite.

Next come the business aspects of things. Abanob Abdo went straight to the point: “Is Epic and LEGO signing a yearly deal or…? Just a cash cow.” Well… Probably both. LEGO Fortnite was such a smart idea; it tags into an entirely new audience (parents-kids-nostalgic adults) and keeps the main Fortnite players mostly afloat in the first place. And this Expeditions launch in June, right at the opening of summer? So much strategy. They really have their act together, do they.

On the other hand, not all are keeping watch on the LEGO front. There are those like will, who seem to wonder what on earth Street Fighter has to do with this. Uh…nothing? But since Fortnite has so many crossovers these days, it’s basically a free rein in pop culture territory, so who knows? Maybe someday Ryu and Chun-Li will get put into LEGO form.

The actual thoughts floating through everyone’s heads are, “How many players are actually jumping into LEGO Fortnite these days?” At launch, the mode recorded a fabulous 2.3 million concurrent players at launch, which is 46% of the entire playerbase of Fortnite, according to Grok (yep, that’s Grok). At present, the estimates oscillate between 30% and 40%—which is insane for an offshoot mode. The influx of fresh content from Expeditions could easily trigger a rebound in numbers.

June 18th will, of course, offer other things as well. “June 18 will never be forgotten in history,” SeanDoggo purportedly stated. Not in history, for sure, in the very long list of insane updates Fortnite has had. But whether you are a LEGO head or a battle royale sweat, or all are just happy witnessing being put in a frying pan and set on fire, this expansion won’t be one to miss.
