Martin “Deficio” Lynge, former League of Legends player, color commentator, analyst, and general manager, has joined Misfits Gaming Group as the director of Misfits Gaming Europe, the organization revealed recently. Deficio stepped down from his role as general manager of rival LEC squad Origen on Sept. 15. “It’s been a roller-coaster of highs lows with strong Spring Splits but failing to develop for summer,” Deficio said. “While the end results have been disappointing, I’m still sure we had good teams capable of making Worlds both years, and I take away a lot of learnings about team development.” Astralis Group announced earlier hat it’s rebranding its League team from Origen to Astralis, while also making some widespread changes to the team’s coaching staff. Coach André Guilhoto’s role in the team hasn’t been pinned down just yet. Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño will also be stepping back from the team but will remain a shareholder. Origen had one of the worst downturns in the team’s extensive history. In the 2020 LEC Spring Split, they finished in third place in the regular season but were eliminated in the lower bracket of the playoffs by G2 Esports. Origen was initially founded by xPeke in December 2014 after he departed Fnatic to found his own team. Jungler Amazing (of Team SoloMid), support Mithy (formerly of Lemondogs), and rookie AD carry Niels joined xPeke as he played mid lane. xPeke's former Fnatic teammate sOAZ joined shortly thereafter to play top lane. Origen established a base and gaming house in Tenerife in the Canary Islands of Spain. With Misfits, he’ll be responsible for the strategic growth and development of the League department as well as identifying future opportunities for the team. He’ll also be in charge of infrastructure in 2021, with aims of “expanding to other games and focus areas,” Misfits said. Deficio will be “integrated into all facets of the org from competitive to content, to collaborating with sponsors and partners.” Misfits placed sixth in the 2020 LEC Spring Split and eighth in the summer, missing the mark and failing to qualify for the 2020 League World Championship. Deficio will help develop and expand Misfits going into the new year. “I spent the past two years building an environment that both players and staff loved with Origen and I’m looking forward to shaping the future of Misfits Gaming,” Deficio said in a press release. “There’s a lot of work already going on behind the scenes and I can’t wait to share our plans soon.”
